The Drama Theater of Naum Orlov (Chelyabinsk) opened its doors in the first half of the 20th century. His repertoire today includes classical productions, modern plays, as well as fairy tales for children.
History of the theater
Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) has existed since 1921. The first performance was based on the play by Vl. Nemirovich-Danchenko "The Price of Life". There was no permanent troupe at that time. Money for scenery and costumes was not allocated by the authorities, and it was necessary to find funds from the money earned on performances. The state began to finance the theater in the 30s of the 30th century. A permanent troupe was formed in 1936-1938. This was the merit of the actor of the Maly Theater of Moscow, Sergei Golovin. He came to Chelyabinsk on tour and was invited to work for two seasons to raise the professional level of local artists.
During the war years, the Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) worked in Shadrinsk, giving up its stage to the evacuated Moscow actors. During this period, the troupe was headed by E. B. Krasnyansky. The performances he staged were highly appreciated at the shows.
The status of the State Theater received in 1945. The first big tour of the troupe took place in 1950 inLeningrad.
In the 60s of the 20th century, young talented actors came to the Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk). Among them: G. Stegacheva, L. Arinina, V. Chechetkin, E. Baikovsky, O. Klimova and others.
Since 1973, the People's Artist of Russia Naum Yuryevich Orlov headed the theater for 30 years. He expanded the repertoire. Thanks to him, productions have become more spectacular, more subtle psychologically. During his leadership, the theater began to explore new genres. Another merit of Naum Yurievich is that he managed to assemble a strong troupe.
In 1982, a new, specially equipped building was built for the theater. Its project was created by the architect B. Baranov.
In 1986, the theater received the title of Academic. In the 90s of the 20th century, the troupe began to go on tour not only in different cities of Russia, but also in other countries.
The theater was named after Naum Orlov in 2003.
The next leader of the Chelyabinsk drama was V. L. Gurfinkel. Under him, the repertoire included new interesting performances that were awarded prestigious awards.
In 2006 the theater celebrated its 85th anniversary. This year, viewers saw five premieres at once.
Chelyabinsk Drama became the first theater in Russia and in the world to stage a play by the French playwright J. L. Lagarza "I was in the house waiting for the rain to come." The production team arrived in Chelyabinsk from France. It was headed by Christine Joly, a student of J. L. Lagarca.
