For almost a hundred years, two unique places for children's and adults' leisure time have been operating in this city: the Youth Theater (Yaroslavl), the puppet theater. The last one was opened in 1927, March 1st.

The first performance was a fairy tale called "The Girl and the Bear", as well as an interlude about the cheerful Petrushka. The public saw all this in a house located on Flotskaya Street. The performances were created by director Maria Nikolaevna Slobodskaya, the founder of the theatre.

In 1928, on March 8, another, larger-scale performance of the band took place. This date is still celebrated as a birthday.

In the early 1930s, a society called "Children's Friend" was created in the city of Yaroslavl. It had its own clubs, a shoe shop, a hairdresser's and a canteen. In 1932, the Youth Theater took him under guardianship.

Battle time

The puppet theater (Yaroslavl) did not fall apart during the war years, although ithappened to a lot of other bands. The troupe performed in workshops that worked for defense, in hospitals, and also escorted spectators to the front. They also sent their comrades to the war.

In difficult times, the theater did not stop working. Until now, a doll left over from the time of the war is kept in the theater. She played the role of a fierce fascist, one of the main characters of the propaganda teams. For all his stern appearance, the character spoke in a female voice. The troupe at that time consisted only of the fair sex. The men fought at the front.
