Problems of theater

The modern building of the theater was built in the sixties of the last century on the site of the destroyed Greek Church of the Annunciation, which had been located here since 1909. In the thirties of the XX century, it was converted intochildren's technical station. The building of the puppet theater was erected on the old foundation of the church, the church walls that were preserved during the demolition were partially used.

In the early 2000s, the idea of evicting the puppet theater from its building was first voiced. She was motivated by the fact that the theater building is located on the site of the former church. The city authorities agreed and provided a site for the construction of a new church, nearby, not far from the public library. However, after some time, the diocese again appealed to the Ministry of Property Relations of the region. In this appeal, a reference was made to the law "On the return of church lands", and another demand was put forward to return the building.

In May 2014, on the initiative of the Krestyanin publishing house, a collection of signatures of opponents of such a decision was organized. Its purpose was to prevent the puppet theater from being evicted from the building. In March 2016, the Deputy Governor of the region, S. Bondarev, officially announced that the building of the puppet theater would be transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. The theater must move to a building located on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street by the end of October 2019.

I must say that this decision was met with chagrin by numerous spectators and admirers of the work of this oldest theater. The initiative group, consisting of active social activists, believes that the struggle is not over. They are confident that they will be able to protect their beloved theater from eviction.
