"The Kid and Carlson Who Lives on the Roof" is a trilogy by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). The story tells about a small fat man of indeterminate age with a propeller on his back, who lived on the roof of one of the apartment buildings in Stockholm. Carlson liked to walk on the rooftops, making little pranks, and also to eat well and heartily.
The boy Svante, nicknamed the Kid, met Carlson by chance when he flew into his window. Thus began a friendship between "the best man in the world" and a seven-year-old boy.
Thanks to the work of Lindgren, in 1968 director Boris Stepantsev released the first cartoon series called "The Kid and Carlson". The second series "Carlson returned" came out two more years later, in 1970.
The director brought some fantasy and imagination into the script, which is why the plots of Lindgren and Stepantsev are very different. For example, in the book it was said that Malysh is a spoiled child with a bunch of friends, and Stepantsev showed Malysh as a lonely and neglected boy,who didn't even have a dog. Lindgren also wrote that the housekeeper Freken Bock came to the family due to her mother's illness, and in the cartoon she appeared due to the constant employment of her parents.
By the way, Freken Bok is the funniest and funniest hero, both in the book and in the cartoon. The director and writer constantly teased her because of her cheeky nature and wayward behavior. But at heart, the housekeeper was a kind and fair character, at the end of the trilogy, Lindgren even married her to Uncle Baby.
