Few feature films are capable of bringing the stronger sex to tears. The exception was the work of director Hallström Lasse “Hachiko: the most faithful friend”, the actors and the plot of which touched all the audience without exception.

Nine years of waiting

Like other films, Hachiko is based on a true story. In 1923, one of the professors at the University of Tokyo was presented with an unusual gift - a puppy of the Akita Inu breed. The new owner of Hidesaburo Ueno named his new friend Hachiko.

The kid turned out to be a devoted pet - he followed the professor everywhere, and also saw him off and met him at the station after work. Once Hidesaburo had a heart attack during a lecture, and the doctors were, unfortunately, powerless. On that day, Hachiko did not meet his master, but remained “on duty” for nine long years. Attempts to take the dog to a new home were unsuccessful - the four-legged friend continued to come to the station until his death.

Recognition

Hachiko's story shocked the Japanese to the core. They came to the station to see the faithful dog with their own eyes. Imagethis dog has become a symbol of fidelity and selfless love in the country - a monument to Hachiko was erected as a sign of respect, and his stuffed animal is kept in one of Tokyo's museums.

The story of the dog was told to the whole world by a Japanese film shot in 1987, and in 2009 a remake of “Hachiko: The Most Faithful Friend” was released. Actors, a dog and a poignant story about true friendship were highly appreciated by critics and viewers. With a budget of $16 million, the film earned four times as much.

The most attention in the story of “Hachiko” was the actors “with a tail”. The role of a true friend was played by six dogs of the Akita Inu breed at once - three puppies and three adult dogs. Black-and-white sketches through the eyes of a pet and moments of unrestrained fun with the owner certainly graced the film.

The actors practically could not compete with the charm of Hachiko. It is worth recognizing that only the incomparable Richard Gere made a worthy pair for the dog.

Professor Wilson

The future Hollywood star appeared in an ordinary family of an insurance agent and a housewife. After school, Gere entered the university to study directing and philosophy. Then he gave up everything for the sake of a career as a trumpeter, but the musical environment quickly disappointed him. Finally, the young man became interested in acting.

First success came to Richard Gere in 1975 after being approved for the lead role in the play “Killer's Head”. After positive reviews from critics, the aspiring actor became interested in the film industry.

By the mid-80s, Gere was called sex-symbol of Hollywood. “On the last breath”, “King David”, “August Rhapsody”, “Power” - the name of the actor alone could guarantee the popularity of the picture. However, the melodrama “Pretty Woman” became the most memorable for the audience. Romance on the set with Julia Roberts did not work out, because the heart of the star was occupied by the magnificent Cindy Crawford.

Over the years, Richard Gere tried to get rid of the image of the main heartthrob and discovered new talents in himself. One of these works was the role of Parker Wilson, a friend who was lost by the most devoted dog in the world, Hachiko.

Actors and roles

Richard Gere's on-set partner was the charming Joan Allen, who played Professor Wilson's wife.

On stage Joan Allen appeared in 1977 after joining the theater troupe "Steppenwolf", led by John Malkovich. The 32-year-old actress won a Tony Award for her first Broadway play, Burn It.

However, a film career began to take shape only after the role of the president's wife in the film "Nixon" (1995), which brought well-deserved fame, critical acclaim and nominations for prestigious awards.

Joan Allen took part in such well-known projects as The Notebook, Pleasantville, Death Race and, of course, Hachiko. Actors-colleagues and the audience immediately recognized Pamela Landy - the Deputy Director of the CIA from the popular trilogy about Jason Bourne.

Andy Wilson's daughter

After the professor's sudden death, the family tries to take the pet home, but he continues to wait for a meeting with the owner at the station. Andy Wilson's only right decision is to let the dog go free.

Some of the actors of the film "Hachiko" were with talented animals on the set for the first time. One of them was Sarah Roemer, who played the role of Andy.

Roemer gained her independence at the age of 15 thanks to the modeling business, and her film career began with the horror movie “The Grudge 2” (2006) and developed rapidly. A year later, the film “Paranoia” was released, and then there were proposals for the main roles in the projects “Light it up this summer”, “Psycho” and “Awakening Madison”.

Good Examples

The feat of the dog, on the basis of which the film “Hachiko” was filmed, the actors were touched. However, the story that happened in Japan in the 20s is not the only proof of the endless devotion and love of dogs for their owners.

Skye Terrier Bobby Greyfriars guarded the grave of the owner for fourteen years, Siberian husky B alto prevented a diphtheria epidemic in Alaska and delivered the serum, and the war dog Sergeant Stubby served in the US Army - in every country there are dozens of similar stories of special treatment dog to man.
