Children's puppet theater (Rybinsk) has existed for over 80 years. It is one of the oldest and best in its genre. The basis of the theater's repertoire is children's fairy tales, but there are also several productions for an adult audience.

About the theater

The Puppet Theater (Rybinsk) opened its doors in 1933. It was founded by Zinaida Demidova. From the very first days, the theater worked so successfully that after 3 years of its existence it was recognized as one of the best in our country.

During the difficult war years, puppeteers performed for the defenders of the Motherland and for those who worked in the rear - in hospitals, factories and so on. In 1947 the theater acquired its own building. It was located on Cross Street. The troupe worked there for many years, until 2002.

In 2002, the theater had to part with the old building. And until 2008, the artists performed at other people's venues. At that time, a building was being prepared for the theater along Vokzalnaya Street, in which it has been living since 2008. This room was undergoing extensive renovations.

Today puppet theater (Rybinsk)differs from other cultural institutions working for children in the size of the stage and audience space. The hall is quite roomy and spacious. But some solutions, conceived during the reconstruction, allow the viewer to create the impression of intimacy. The stage is located above the eye level of those sitting in the hall, which makes it possible to make everything that happens on it more accessible to the eye, regardless of the height of the viewer. And even if you sit on the last row, everything will be perfectly visible. In addition, the hall has chairs with adjustable height. In this way, both small and adult spectators can adjust the seats to suit their height.

The hall is designed for 174 seats. Its ceiling is decorated with a luminous, bright LED panel. Another attraction of the hall is the curtain. It is very beautiful, made of velvet and decorated with Sofrino gold embroidery.

On the first floor there is a cloakroom and a lobby. And also there is a beautiful fountain, a large aquarium. In addition, on the ground floor there is a showcase where dolls from various performances are presented. A stand with photographs will allow you to get acquainted with the directors and actors of the theater.

The foyer is used for New Year celebrations, graduations and children's birthdays.

Elephant in the dark

One of the most interesting performances is "The Elephant in the Dark". The Puppet Theater (Rybinsk) included it in its repertoire not so long ago. The play is based on an ancient parable by Jalaladdin Rumi. The main idea of the plot is that the world needs to be known as a whole, and not divided into parts. People (characters of the production) feel the "elephant", which is in the dark. But they are all given the opportunity to touch not the whole animal, but some part of its body. So they are trying to understand how the whole elephant looks.

Each of the characters makes his own judgment about him. But they are all wrong, because they felt only one part of his body and only at the level of their own.imaginations try to imagine this animal. All the people who touched the elephant turned out to be very far from the truth. So it is with the world, if you perceive it not as a whole, but in parts, then you cannot truly know it. And in order to accept, understand and explain everything around, love is necessary, first of all. Only through it can you fully understand the world. The director of the play is V. Zlobin.
