The feast in the neighbors' house usually ends with the violence of the head of the family, the children scatter in all directions, aunt Vasenya usually hides in the main character's house under the wing of his compassionate grandmother. Further on Astafiev's story "The Horse with a Pink Mane" a brief summary tells how our hero, together with his neighbors, went to collect strawberries. As a result, the Levontiev children ate their berries, quarreled with each other, and began to "prick" the main character that he was afraid of his grandmother. The result of the "teasers" is a desperate act - Vitka pours out the berries, a mob immediately sweeps them away. And our hero collects grass in the tues, and hastily pours berries on top.

Grandma does not reveal the deception, praises Vitya from the bottom of her heart, but his conscience still torments him, so the whole next day, while she is in the city, the boy spends fishing with the Levontievsky children. And in the evening, on the way to the house, seeing his grandmother, our hero runs away tocousin, where he plays late. But his aunt takes him home and sends him to the pantry.

There he falls asleep, and wakes up in the morning from the fact that his grandmother indignantly tells someone about his deceit. He hears how she recalls his drowned mother, who could not be found in the river for six days, how both suffered - her mother in the river, and her grandmother at home. The boy's heart bleeds, he has already regretted his deceit a thousand times. And when grandfather pulls him out of the closet crying, he can only say: “I am more … I am more …” But grandmother has already forgiven him, and after breakfast Vitya sees … a gingerbread horse in front of him. He will remember this undeserved gift for the rest of his life, which spoke of the love of his loved ones.
