Movie roles
Many viewers and researchers remember Karev from his work in cinema. He first appeared on the big screen in 1936. In the comedy by Vladimir Korsh-Sablin and Iosif Shapiro "Seekers of Happiness" he played the chairman of the collective farm Nathan.
This picture is dedicated to the Jews who moved to the Far East, to the Birobidzhan collective farm called "Roite-Feld". Events unfold in 1928. In the center of the story is the Dvoir family. They move from abroad (however, where exactly is not reported) and begin to live in the Far East.
In Birobidzhan they join the collective farm. They have hard work ahead of them. The daughter of the head of the family in a new place falls in love with a native of these places, the fisherman Korney.
At this time, the husband of Basya's second daughter, Pinya Kopman, does not want to work. He dreams of only one thing - to find a lot of gold and hide with it in China. There he sees himself as a major industrialist, the owner of a factory for the production of suspenders. His plan is revealed by Basi Leva's brother. In order not to be caught, Pinya attacks him, inflicts injuries, and hides himself.
However, suspicions of a crime fall on the fisherman Korney. But everything falls into place when Pingya is detained at the border. He confesses everything, and all the gold that he has washed up during this time, turns out to be fake.
At the same time, the storyline of Basya's romantic relationship with the chairman of the collective farm, Nathan, played by Karev, unfolds in parallel. At the end of the picture, everyone is walking at the wedding of Rosa and Korney.
School of slander
Many also remember Karev for his role in Abram Room's comedy "School of Scandal", which was released in 1952. This is a film-performance based on the play of the same name by British Richard Sheridan, who lived in the 18th century. Basically, the actors of the Moscow Art Academic Theater were involved in the production.
Karev gets the role of Moses. The film-play "School of Scandal" itself is a classic example of a comedy of manners. This is a brilliantly crafted satire of 18th century British aristocratic society.
The plot revolves around the relationship of yesterday's provincial Lady Teazle, who received an enviable status after she married Sir Peter. In an instant, Lady Teazle finds herself in high British society. She communicates in the salon of the famous Lady Sneerwell. Everyone calls this salon "the school of slander".
The main character plunges into social life with pleasure. But soon, to his surprise, he discovers that he is the victim of vile intrigues. Sheridan, who wrote this story in the 18th century, could not completely abandon the sentimentalism that prevailed at that time. But the work shows features of realistic drama, which became popular only in the 19th century.
HeroFor our article, Karev died in 1975 at the age of 76. Buried in the capital.
