Girl from Dagestan
Can you call a Dagestan writer who was born in Moscow? Probably, it is possible, because, having lived up to17 years in Dagestan, Alisa Ganieva managed to study and understand all the subtleties associated with the life of the Caucasian republic. The best works of Alisa Ganieva are dedicated to the people of Dagestan.
For those who do not know: Dagestan is not Chechnya, the upbringing of girls there is not as puritanical as it might seem to someone. Of course, in remote villages, girls still follow traditions in both dress and behavior. For example, the tradition of wearing headscarves, which city dwellers no longer consider obligatory for themselves, is still observed in the villages.
Ganieva is a modern author who does not forget about her roots and has a good metropolitan education. Her characters are Dagestanis, who, in connection with modern realities, have broken away from their roots, but have not yet come to anything new. These are girls who have learned to visit expensive salons and threw off hated scarves, and young people who flaunt newfangled words and all kinds of expensive gizmos.
Who is Gulla?
At the beginning of her career, Alisa Ganieva takes on the pseudonym Gulla Khirachev. This surname is quite common for Dagestan, despite its dissonance in the Russian language. During the presentation of the Debut Prize in 2009, which was awarded to the author for the story Salam to you, Dalgat!, No one expected that Gulla was Alice, and Hirachev was Ganieva. Here the writer had to open up, because she had to go on stage and receive a prize.
In her works, the young writer tells about the lives and destinies of the most ordinary people - Dagestanis. And that's why,how she does it, one can conclude how much Alice loves these people. She wants to convey the truth about her homeland to the whole world.
What is the story about
A collection of stories about the North Caucasus, written by Alisa Ganieva, Salam to you, Dalgat! is intended to show the reader a real modern Dagestan and get rid of many prejudices associated with the life principles of the Dagestanis. It opens up the Land of Mountains for the reader in a new way.
The main character is Dalgat from Makhachkala. A few stories about how he lived just one summer day give an idea of the way of life in a small Dagestan town. The use of slang expressions in large quantities most accurately makes it clear to the reader how far Dagestan has departed from its traditions and how far it is still from reaching something.
The novels of Alisa Ganieva
The novel "Holiday Mountain" is an attempt to describe the Caucasus as if it had separated and exists outside of Russia. The heroes of the book are people who have lost their roots, who have not been able to adapt to European values. All their attempts to change centuries-old traditions are shown by the example of one village, the main population of which is middle-aged people, because of this it is difficult for them to radically change something in their lives, but they don’t want to live in the old way either.
The new novel by the writer Ganiyeva "The Bride and Groom" tells about the peculiarities of marriage in the Caucasus. Young people want to get more freedom in choosing a couple, the older generation does not want to leave traditions. Superstitions, divination andother attributes accompanying this event do not allow young people to live their lives. And then there are the newfangled foreign interpretations of Islam, which have nothing to do with the freedom-loving Caucasus. As a result, the bride and groom are separated, completely different fates are prepared for them. The novel has everything to captivate the reader: descriptions of family life, the theft of a girl, a funeral.
Awards
Despite the still short creative path, Alisa Ganieva has many awards and nominations. She has the prestigious awards "Russian Booker", "Big Book", "Student Booker", "National Bestseller" and others.
Loyal criticism
Critics in relation to the work of Alisa Ganiyeva are mostly positive. Only a few are outraged by how frankly she expresses her point of view on what is happening in modern Dagestan. Ganieva also did not receive support from her countrymen, and Islamic fundamentalists do not approve of her either.
Some of the critics consider the PoPuGan group to be the smartest and most beautiful girls in Russia. Some people compare the young talent with foreign writers, who are also trying to acquaint the residents of megacities with how the outback lives. One of the critics calls Ganieva a person who is absolutely cut off from the Caucasian reality and at the same time fully understands it.
There are also those who praise the writer for her scientific mindset and for her ability to choose the main thing from many things.
According to The Guardian newspaper in 2015, Ganiyeva was included in the listthe most talented young residents of Moscow.
Someone sees much deeper and considers Ganieva's story and novels to be works in which a certain secret meaning is hidden. Some, on the contrary, say that the works of a young author lack wisdom, but he is young for that. Wisdom will come over the years, and these will be completely different works.
And now Alisa Ganieva is a young beautiful Russian writer who will most likely please her fans with more than one work.
