Since the birth of alternative metal, many adherents of this genre have appeared, and Disturbed is one of them. On our "great and mighty" this name can be translated as "Alarmed". Over the years of the team's existence, the guys have achieved a lot, and have become popular in all civilized countries. The article will provide a detailed chronology of the Disturbed group with a photo.

These guys were successfully moving along the creative path and soon reached the peak of their fame, but in 2011 they decided to take a break, thereby scaring their ardent fans. But just three years later, the band was resurrected and successfully writing songs, and the newest album can be heard in October of this year.

Backstory

At first (94-96) the rock band was called Brawl, and when David Draiman joined them, the line-up looked like this:

  1. Vocals - Erich Av alt.
  2. Guitar - Dan Donigan.
  3. Drums - Mike Wengren.
  4. Bassist Steve Kmak.

According toDonigan, the group was supposed to be called Crawl, but that name was already taken. Av alt for some reason left the guys after the release of the demo, so they advertised in the Illinois Entertainer for a vacant vocalist position. Dreyman noticed him and, having phoned Brawl, went to audition. The guys were satisfied with both the vocal abilities and the character of the new candidate, so he was told “yes”. David was ready to work in any genre, which, of course, ruled out possible creative differences.

The rock band Disturbed was formed by four Chicago guys in 1996, and Brawl was forgotten. The new name was proposed by David Draiman, because at that time the guys needed to be “pushed” to unprecedented achievements and keep the bar at a certain level. And calling himself "Alarmed" seemed like a great idea to him.

Soon two demo CDs were released, each containing three singles. The first featured songs: Down with the Sickness, The Game and Meaning of Life. And on the second: Droppin' Plates, Stupify and Want. Then the guys began their collaboration with Giant Records, and made a talisman for the group, giving it the name The Guy (“Guy”).

In 2000, the band's first album Disturbed - The Sickness was released, and hit 29 on the Billboard 200, and sales in America exceeded 4,000,000 copies. For a team that has recorded only a debut album, this is quite a rapid rise!

Success

Since the beginning of 2001, the team recorded a cover for Faith No More (Midlife Crisis), but beforethey were in no hurry to perform it with the public. And in the summer they were lucky enough to take part in the legendary Ozzfest tour. Due to their rapidly growing fame, the organizers placed their performance in the middle of the festival - closer to Black Sabbath. The Fear single was honored to be included in the Ozzfest compilation - 2001.

The next year was also a milestone as Disturbed released a DVD documentary titled M. O. L featuring their creative days, studio work and interviews, along with some live videos.

The second studio album, Believe, was released on September 17, 2002, and immediately soared to number 1 on the Billboard 200. A video for a song called Prayer was soon released, but it contained too realistic scenes, reminiscent of fatal for America September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Therefore, it was not easy for him to get on TV. Around the same time, the lead singer of Disturbed recorded the cool single Forsaken, which was featured in the movie Queen of the Damned.

Own tour and line-up changes

After the successful release of Believe, Disturbed were again invited to Ozzfest 2003. Then the guys decided to take a tour of the States on their own with their own Music as a Weapon II tour. Teams invited included Taproot, Chevelle, and Unloco. In one of the performances, the song Dehumanized, which has not yet been included in any album, sounded for the first time. Disturbed didn't end the tour well, as bassist Steve Kmack wasfired due to some personal grievances between the musicians. However, he was replaced very soon by John Moyer, after which the band played successfully at House of Blues. At this concert, new singles Monster and Hell were played, which became bonus tracks for the next disc.

Platinum album

On September 20, 2005, Disturbed released Ten Thousand Fists, which again topped the Billboard 200. In the first week after the release, sales exceeded 238 thousand discs, and in January 2006 the circulation increased to one million copies, after which the album began to be considered platinum. At Ozzfest 2006, the guys were already on a par with such cult bands as Lacuna Coil, System of a Down, and even the "great and terrible" Ozzy Osbourne.

Live on Launch Radio Networks, David Draiman said that 20 tracks were created for the new album, but only 14 were officially included. Therefore, unreleased singles were leaked to fans via the Internet. These are the songs of Hell, Monster, Two Worlds. Ten Thousand Fists was certified double platinum and was number one on all US charts.

Scandal

David Draiman

Disturbed had a new tour planned for 2006, but a couple of times it had to be postponed "for later". The first time - because the vocalist had serious problems with his vocal cords, and he had to decide on an operation that was successful. And the second - because of the scandalous story in which David Draiman played the main role.

It all started when the vocalist said an unflattering thing about the RIAA, whichsued file hosting users. Here are his words: “Instead of exacting money from children and spending a lot of money on it, they could simply use the possibilities of the Internet with high quality. I don't need their protection, and I didn't ask anyone about it!”.

The Music as a Weapon III tour did take place at the end of the year, featuring Stone Sour, Nonpoint and Flyleaf. Upon returning to Chicago, Draiman announced publicly that the band was already working on their next album.

New achievement

From the album Indestructible, released in June 2008, it smelled of "darkness". The singles sounded darker than before, and some of them were a reflection of the vocalist's real experiences. The album also includes previously unreleased Divide and Perfect Insanity, which were written long before the release of the debut album.

The guys played dark music at Dreiman's request to emphasize the meaning of his songs. The main track, Indestructible, was written for soldiers in trouble spots. A video of the same name was also filmed for this song.

The opinion of music critics was mixed, but the album, like the previous one, went platinum. In 2009, the single Inside the Fire was nominated for a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Song. This was followed by another tour Music as a Weapon IV, which was attended by many famous bands.

At one of the press conferences, Draiman assured that the next album would be just as dark and lyrical. However, other members of the band said that in light of the events the frontman has gone through in recent years, the songs promise to be filled withaggressive and hard enough to perceive.

After the tour, the guys had a little rest, and then they started working on a new album, which was released on August 31, 2010. Moreover, they began to compose material two years before. Asylum, like Indestructible, was produced by the band itself. Soon a video for the song Another Way to Die was released. Some tracks were included in the Rock Band series of games.

The band's fifth album, Disturbed, is back at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 179,000 copies.

Respite

Despite the fact that four albums in a row were number one in the States, Disturbed announced their "temporary retirement". At that time, they did not yet know if they would be able to gather again. Among the reasons for the indefinite leave were factors such as:

  • desire to work solo;
  • crisis in the world of rock music;
  • personal reasons.

However, the musicians reassured the fans that there were no disagreements within the band. Before their departure in 2011, the band released The Lost Children.

Solo projects of musicians 2012-2014:

  • Bass guitarist John Moyer joined Adrenaline Mob. The first performance took place on March 12, 2012.
  • Vocalist David Draiman, in May 2012, made his own band Device. And already in 2013, the first album with the participation of famous rock musicians was released.
  • Donaghan and Wengren together with Dan Chandler (Evans Blue) in 2013 created their ownproject, and soon released their own CD.
  • In early 2015, it became known that John Moyer created the group Art of Anarchy, inviting the twins Vince and John Vott, Ron Tal and Scott Weiland. Their first album came out immediately.

Rebirth of the band

The first hint of a Disturbed reunion was a very unambiguous video in which The Guy lies under a life support device and breathes quietly. It, along with the team's new logo, was posted on June 22, 2014 on the official Disturbed Facebook page.

The very next day, the group officially announced that their story continues. The new album, the recording of which was kept in strict confidence, was released on August 21 of the same year, and the band performed in their native Chicago. Then, on November 18, 2016, the live album Live at Red Rocks was released. Disturbed presented to the public their performance in Australia at the famous festival The X Factor.

Put on a par with "pop"

Disturbed was invited to the 59th Grammy on February 12, 2017. The guys presented the best performance in the style of rock, along with such celebrities as the Alabama Shakes, Twenty One Pilots, David Bowie and … singer Beyonce. Moreover, how the star of the pop scene got there was not entirely clear. In an interview with Metal Hammer, David Draiman expressed dissatisfaction with this circumstance, saying that: "If Disturbed and Bience are nominated in the same category, then something went wrong."

Working on a newalbum

The new single from the Evolution album was released on August 16 this year, and the guys promise to release the album on October 19, 2018. It will contain 10 songs.

About the band's mascot

This band's amulet "debuted" in the Land of Confusion video, as well as on four studio CDs and one of the compilations. The "boyfriend" of the Disturbed team was created by Todd McFarlane, the creator of Spawn.

Style

When the guys were just starting out, Disturbed's music could be attributed to such a genre as "hard and heavy". However, later the guys switched to nu-metal and alternative.

Dreyman had this to say on the subject: “Apparently we have too many melodic songs, or the music isn't aggressive enough for listeners to call our style heavy metal. I love this genre, but we don't want to stay within its narrow limits.”

The guys themselves do not consider themselves adherents of any particular style, but simply play the way they like. However, the fact that they were introduced to the once popular nu-metal brought Disturbed certain benefits. According to Draiman, the band plays in the classic metal genre, and Metallica, Judas Priest, Pantera, Iron Maiden and the legendary Black Sabbath are the bands that inspired their work.

Creativity by David Draiman

In the documentary M. O. L. the vocalist talks about the fact that his songs are based on personal experience and subjective worldview. The musician likes to present it as cryptic lyrics and is backed by his band. Disturbed's songs are varied, containing reflections on topics such as:

  • bloody wars;
  • all evil spirits (zombies, werewolves, demons, vampires);
  • violence and madness;
  • suicide and murder;
  • love and relationships;
  • fantasy;
  • Christian perception of Heaven and Hell.

In general, every person, having carefully listened to David's creations, will definitely find something of their own.

Guitar tuning

The lead singer of Disturbed tunes his instrument in C instead of E, so the sound is lower and heavier. In addition, Dan Donegan uses the intricate possibilities of a guitar gadget, which his comrades call The Danny Donegan Orchestra.
