Ekaterinburg is famous for its musical performances. The Opera and Ballet Theater (address: Lenina Avenue, 46a) is the pride of the city. His repertoire includes not only classical performances, but also modern ones. Every year the theater pleases its audience with several premieres.

History of the theater

Ekaterinburg saw the first performances back in the 19th century. The Opera and Ballet Theater appeared much later than this event. Its first season was opened only in 1912. Prior to that, since 1874, there was only a circle of amateurs in the city, which staged wonderful musical performances. The first opera staged at the theater was A Life for the Tsar by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. It premiered in 1912. The first ballet that was staged at the theater was The Magic Flute to the music of R. Drigo. It premiered in 1914.

Ekaterinburg quickly fell in love with the city's first professional troupe. The Opera and Ballet Theater immediately won a big name for itself. After 10 years, he became known far beyond the city limits and gained fameone of the best in Russia. Wonderful artists have always worked and are working in the theater. Passenger

Ekaterinburg will soon see the first opera work by composer Moses Weinberg. The Opera and Ballet Theater in the new season will present the performance "The Passenger" to the public. It was written in the 60s of the 20th century, but the first production took place only in 2006. The plot of the opera is based on the story of the Polish writer Z. Posmysh. The action takes place on a transatlantic liner. The main character Lisa and her diplomat husband are sailing to Brazil. There she meets a woman who seems familiar to her. Liza tells her husband about her assumptions and reveals the truth about herself - she was a warden in Auschwitz. It seems to Lisa that the woman on the liner is very similar to one of the prisoners of the camp - Martha, whom she had long considered dead. The heroine is trying to find out who this passenger who stirred up her memories is.
