Biography: early years, education

Anatoly Belkin was born in Moscow on September 27, 1953. Little is known about his family and early childhood. Probably, the Belkins were an ordinary Soviet family of that time, and the childhood of the future artist was the same as for any child.

If many creative figures initially received a profession in some other direction, and later discovered a craving for art, then Anatoly Belkininitially knew what he wanted to do in life.

Education Belkin received in Leningrad. At the age of 10, he entered the Ioganson Secondary Art School, from which he graduated in 1970. Immediately after graduating from art school, Anatoly Belkin entered the Repin Institute of Painting, Architecture and Sculpture at the graphic faculty. However, two years later he was expelled for unknown reasons.

Debut and first fame

The young painter was one of the youngest participants in the Gazanev movement. "Gazanevshchina" refers to the activities of nonconformist artists in Leningrad. The word itself was formed from the names of the two most popular exhibition venues: the Gaza Palace of Culture and the Nevsky Palace of Culture.

Belkin participated in many exhibitions of "unofficial art". The first public appearance of his work took place in 1974. Three years later, a personal exhibition of the artist was organized in the Dzerzhinsky House of Culture.

Further activities

In 1976, Anatoly Belkin's paintings began to appear at exhibitions abroad: in New York, Washington, San Francisco, St. Louis, Paris and other cities.

At the moment the artist lives and works in St. Petersburg. His paintings can be seen in the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art and other collections.
