Theater on Perovskaya: about the theater, repertoire, troupe

The theater on Perovskaya has existed for almost 30 years. It can be considered young. The repertoire of the theater includes both classical works, and modern ones, as well as performances for young spectators.

Temple of Melpomene

Drama theater on Perovskaya (Moscow) opened its doors in November 1987. But the idea to create it appeared long before that - in 1979. This dream was cherished by students Kirill Panchenko and Viktor Nikitin. The first of them became the artistic director of the theater on Perovskaya, and the second became the leading actor.

The first performance was based on A. Strindberg's play "Miss Julie".

The nineties were difficult for the theatre. And as a way of survival, as well as in order to help other troupes in this difficult period, the artistic director came up with the idea of holding the International-90 festival. Each theater in turn was the venue for it, and also paid the costs.

In 1992, the Perovskaya Theater held the first body art festival in our country.

In 1995, another festival came to replace the "International-90". Its name is "Slavic Crown". This festival is still held by the theater today. It acceptsparticipation of a troupe from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and other countries. It doesn't have to be Slavs. The main thing is that the performances of the theaters participating in the festival should be based on the plays of Slavic playwrights.

Since 2001, a studio called "Traven" has been created at the theater. Her repertoire includes performances based on the works of Ukrainian playwrights.

In 2013, at the initiative of the team, a festival for young talents was held. Schoolchildren came from all over the capital, as well as the region, dreaming of becoming actors. The jury consisted of high-class professionals. Young talents got a chance to show themselves and get objective assessments.

From February 2014 to March 2016, the theater building underwent a major overhaul.
