Family

His parents were far from art. Mother named Elsa held the position of secretary. And father Oscar worked for the good of his country and worked as a policeman. No one could have imagined that the boy in the future would act in films and travel around the country with concerts.

Education and army

As a boy, Richard attended Bishop's High School. After graduating, he entered the University of California, but in the late 1960s he stopped studying.

Richard was not in the mood to join the army because of his pacifist views. So he moved to Vancouver.

The start of the journey

Then an event occurs that will change the entirehis future life - he meets a guy named Tommy Chong. The guys began to communicate well and found a lot in common with each other. Subsequently, by joint efforts, they organized the duet "Chech and Chong". Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were in the business of making people laugh, and they were good at it. Richard took this nickname for himself only because he considered it consonant with the name of his new friend.

The guys gave their first performances in the stand-up format. They also included funny sketches and humorous songs.

Tommy owned a club in Canada, where the guys performed. The audience who watched their performances told their friends about the duo - this is how Richard and Tommy gained their first popularity and fame.

Until 1972, the duo continued to record humorous songs - and for good reason. After all, this year they were awarded the Grammy, they fell into the category "Best Musical Comedy Album".

According to the old scheme, they shoot a sequel that appears on the screens already in 1980. Subsequently, the guys every year until 1983 pleased the fans with a continuation of the last series of the picture. All her films were successful, but the theme has become obsolete. But this is not where the duo stops conquering the film industry.

The same year was marked by a short film "Get out of my room!". This time, the guys changed places a bit, and Cheech Marin did the director's work. The project was created in order to draw attention to the new album of the same name.

This was the last collaboration between Tommy and Richard. Then everyone decides to come to grips with solo work, so the duet breaks up.
