Of course, films are different. Currently, there are a huge number of them. And everyone can choose for himself what he likes more. And if it suddenly happens that time is spent on a film about which they say that it is “completely useless”, then we are disappointed. But, fortunately, the opposite also happens. All people get great pleasure from watching a movie that we can't stop watching, watching it in one breath and secretly praying that it lasts longer.

One of these film projects can rightfully be considered the psychological thriller "Side Effect". The actors are perfect, and the plot captures from the first minute. Film directed by Steven Soderbergh. He has such famous films as "Pleasantville", "Ocean's Trilogy", "Solaris", "Knockout" and many others.

Storyline

"Side Effect" is a psychological film. If you don't like these genres well, then it's best to avoid watching. But are there such viewers?

First meeting

The film first introduces us to a man named Martin Taylor, who has just been released from prison after four years. A few days later, his wife Emily crashes into a concrete wall at high speed in an attempt to kill herself.

A miraculously saved woman is taken to the hospital. There, she is assigned a personal psychiatrist, Jonathan Banks, who monitors her safety and, after much persuasion, nevertheless agrees to let her go home, only on the condition that the girl visits him regularly.

After trying several antidepressants, Dr. Banks realizes that none of them improve the young woman's condition. Hoping to help her in any way, he contacts Emily's former psychiatrist, Victoria. She, in turn, recommends a new experimental drug - "Ablix".

At first, the doctor doubts whether it is worth risking the girl's life by prescribing her an untested drug. But all doubts disappear the moment Emily tries to commit suicide again.

Unexpected turns -the most valuable thing in the plot

Moreover, the medicine helps the girl, and she finally begins to live a normal life. The only side effect of the drug is rare cases of somnambulism. One of these moments, Emily kills her husband with a knife.

During a girl's trial, a doctor tries to convince the judge and jury of her innocence. But as a result, he ruins his career due to the fact that everyone considers him to be guilty of what happened, since he is the doctor who prescribed the dangerous drug.

The girl is declared insane and placed in a psychiatric hospital until her psychiatrist calls her he althy. Despite the fact that Jonathan's life has gone downhill, he still tries to get to the bottom of the truth. It takes great effort for him to find out that everything that happened was carefully planned and orchestrated by Victoria and Emily. And yet, the doctor manages to get evidence with the help of a situation set up by him, when he injects Emily with a placebo under the guise of truth serum. The girl succumbs to deception and tells Jonathan the whole truth.

After her suspicions, Victoria sends incriminating photos to Jonathan's wife, hinting at her husband's relationship with Emily. After that, the man's marriage falls apart, and his wife, taking her son, leaves.

The doctor, using his power as a psychiatrist, forbids any contact between Emily and Victoria, while setting them against each other. Emily goes to the doctor to contact and tells him the whole truth. After her husband was arrested, the girl began to hatehim, accusing him of having lost a rich, carefree life because of him. She seduced Victoria, developing a romantic relationship with her.

Emily teaches her friend the financial knowledge she learned from her husband, who in return teaches her how to pretend to be mentally ill. The girls' plan was to fake a non-existent side effect from the use of the drug "Ablix". And make a tidy sum on this due to the fall of the company's shares.

Initially, the main female role in the film was to be played by actress Blake Lively. But due to circumstances unknown to us, it soon became known that Rooney Mara would replace her.

The role of Dr. Jonathan Banks was masterfully played by the famous actor Jude Law. Former psychiatrist Emily Victoria was played by famous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. And the role of Jonathan's wife Deidra Banks is actress Vinessa Shaw.

Summing up all of the above, it's safe to say that this movie is worthy of being reviewed again and again from time to time. It's safe to say that in the movie "Side Effect" the actors played their roles superbly. Such creations never get bored.
