About the theater
Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theater named after M. I. Glinka is located on a beautiful square with the Nymph fountain. And once upon a time there was the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, built in the 18th century. But in 1931 the temple was closed, and a year later it was demolished.
In 1937, the construction of the Music and Drama Theater began. Its opening was to take place in November 1941, but the war disrupted the plans.
In an unfinished building there is a factory that produced products for the front. Only in 1948 the enterprise left it.
The room was closed for reconstruction, which lasted a long seven years. The repair was completed in 1955. The building acquired a slightly different look, became the way residents of the city are accustomed to seeing it now. Initially, many decorative elements were not on it. For example, the pedimentsculptural composition appeared only after restoration. The number of columns has increased. In addition, they became round in shape, although they were originally square.
Restoration work turned out to be so complicated and time-consuming that, as the newspapers wrote at the time, it was easier to build a new building.
The plant left behind thick layers of emulsions, oils, concrete, which had to be destroyed, otherwise it was simply impossible to do anything.
The Opera House (Chelyabinsk) experienced the second large-scale reconstruction in the 80s. It lasted three years. Chandeliers were decorated with new crystal, stucco - covered with gold leaf. The building has become more beautiful and palace-like.

Reviews
The Opera House (Chelyabinsk) is very popular with the audience. They write that this is the place where everything is perfect - the hall, architecture, performances, scenery, director's finds, lighting design.
Opera and operetta artists, even performing non-main roles, not only sing amazingly, but also play their roles, which is not so common in this genre. The dancers in this theater are as great as the vocalists.
