While most Hollywood playwrights are out of work, screenwriter David S. Goyer is hard at work. His track record includes the Blade trilogy, director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, Man of Steel (2013), Godzilla (2014) and many other significant film projects of our time. However, after finishing work on The Dark Knight, he found time to work on a historical adventure story about one of the most mysterious geniuses. The series "Da Vinci's Demons" reviews by critics are often compared with the video game Assassin's Creed 2, the audience sees it as similar to the dashing "Three Musketeers" and, of course, "The Da Vinci Code". IMDb movie rating: 8.00.
With mystical "twists"
The first season of Da Vinci's Demons is an adult entertaining spectacle with explicit sex talk, nudity, violence and bloodshed. The plot of the historical adventure show takes place in Italy in the 15th century. Florentine young genius Leonardo da Vinci (T. Riley), equally unsurpassed in science and art, is hired to serve Lorenzo Medici (E. Covan), the ruler of Florence. Medici generously rewards the efforts of the master, but Leonardo is more interested in the ruler's mistress, the beautiful Lucrezia (L. Haddock). The girl encourages his courtship, as she is in fact a spy for the Pope. In parallel with the romantic line, Da Vinci is trying to unravel the mystery of the mystical cult of the "Sons of Mithras", with which his long-lost mother is somehow connected.
Acting Ensemble
The first season of Da Vinci's Demons received rave reviews, was well received by critics and won three Emmy awards. Among the advantages of the show is the cast of the project. Having gained experience in "Agatha Christie's Poirot" and the movie "Jane Austen's Book Alive", English actor Tom Riley was brilliant in the image of the young genius, the main character of the film. Reviews of the series "Da Vinci's Demons", published by film experts, note the professionalism of Alexander Siddig ("Game of Thrones", "Gotham"), who played the head of a mystical clan. According to filmmakers, Laura Haddock ("How not to live") is magnificent in the image of the intriguing Lucrezia, and Elliot Cowan ("Alexander") realistically reincarnated as Lorenzo di Medici.
Other characters of the show were no less bright, and the mystical digressions did not spoil the overall atmosphere of the story. David Goyer is a recognized master of gripping stories about "tough" guys, and his Da Vinci is no worse than Batman. He does not hide his personality behind a mask, but he has a great variety of gadgets.
Delicious show
As the reviews of Da Vinci's Demons say, the second season is somewhatworse than the first, but nevertheless it remains a delightful show for all fans of historical fiction.
Events develop after the suppression of the Florentine rebellion. Key characters, pursuing personal goals, go on trips to different sides. Leonardo (Tom Riley) travels to the New World with a group of like-minded people to find the mysterious Book of Leaves. The Medici (E. Covan) leaves for Naples to receive the support of Bishop Ferdinand. Lucretia (L. Haddock) returns to the Vatican, but, without staying there for a long time, goes to Constantinople on an important mission. She is ordered to provoke a conflict that could turn into a war between the powerful Ottoman Empire and the Italian states. Count Riario (B. Ritzon) pursues Da Vinci, and the Medici wife Clarice, taking advantage of the absence of her husband, takes the reins of government into her own hands.
In the land of the Incas
The creators of the project, by breaking the connection between the main characters and forcing them to interact with new characters, simultaneously complicated and weakened the dramaturgy of the show. Da Vinci's protagonist in the New World portrays Indiana Jones, which many reviewers say is a big minus. In their reviews of Da Vinci's Demons, they favor Leonardo from the first season as a scientist and inventor over an artifact-hunting adventurer.
At the same time, despite the shortcomings, the second season of the project turned out to be quite entertaining. The narrative surprises with unexpected twists, the intensity of intrigue does notweakens, bloodshed occurs regularly, and Leonardo's bizarre postmodern visions are at least curious. And the final twist transparently hints that the third will be an epic endgame.
Final season of the series
The film "Da Vinci's Demons" ends with the third season. According to the plot, Leonardo will have to stop the invasion of the Ottoman Empire in his native lands, get involved in the confrontation between the clan "Sons of Mithras" and the Labyrinth. Find the lost pages of the Book of Leaves.
The story of the final season is very dynamic, the kaleidoscope of battles, exciting adventures and high-quality special effects pleasantly surprises. By the way, the visualization of Leonardo's ideas has also reached a new amazing level. The sketches of the drawing seem to envelop the space, creating three-dimensional effects. All episodes look cheerful and exciting, only the presence of plot holes and unrevealed stories of individual characters upsets.
