Going to another city, you should definitely visit its most important sights. This will expand your horizons, knowledge about the history and culture of this place. The architecture of Krasnodar deserves special attention. It is famous for its historical buildings. Some modern buildings also quite harmoniously complemented the urban landscapes. The key attractions of this city will be discussed further.
Stylistic diversity
The city of Krasnodar, which until the twenties of the last century was called Yekaterinodar, was founded at the end of the 18th century. Over the long years of its history, it was constantly under construction, old buildings dilapidated and collapsed, new ones appeared, reflecting the architectural features of their century.
Therefore, the architecture of Krasnodar is an incredible mixture of a wide variety of styles - from baroque and classicism to modernity and eclecticism. There is even a Moorish style. All this is interspersedbuildings of the Soviet era and the latest ultra-modern structures.
The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Krasnodar is trying to design modern buildings so that they fit seamlessly into the overall ensemble of the city. Experts speak of some of them as an undoubted success. However, it is far from always possible to fit some new buildings into the existing landscape. But, despite this, the most famous buildings of Krasnodar are still pleasing to the eye with their beauty.
St. Catherine's Cathedral
The most famous of the places of worship in Krasnodar was erected from the beginning of the last century and was built over the course of twelve years. After that, for another two years, work was carried out on the interior painting of the building. The construction was carried out at the expense of the residents of the city. The people call this church the "Red Cathedral" because it is built of red brick.
After the revolution, the premises of the cathedral were first used for warehouses, later it housed an aircraft modeling circle. The building is currently in use for its intended purpose. A dozen bells, including the one and a half ton "Blagovest", delight the ear with their harmonious chime.
Mansion of the Bogarsukov brothers
The pearls of Krasnodar's architecture are, first of all, the luxurious mansions of we althy citizens, merchants, industrialists and entrepreneurs of the late 19th - early 20th century. They served as a reflection of the status of their owners. Also of interest are hotels, shops and tenement houses, which are real works of art.art.
One of the most beautiful buildings is the house of merchants Bogarsukovs. It is located in the center of the city and, in addition to its magnificent appearance, is also famous for the fact that no one knows the name of the architect who created this beauty. Historians tried to find a mention of him in the archives, but their search was unsuccessful.
From the sixties of the last century to the present day, this building houses the Historical and Archaeological Museum. Felitsyna.
Other famous mansions
Among the slightly less luxurious, but no less interesting mansions, one can single out the Fotiadi house, built in the Art Nouveau style and formerly owned by a well-known entrepreneur in the city, the owner of a large shoe factory. It was built in 1912 and is a bright blue building. It has a picture of a seagull on it. During the Civil War, Anton Denikin lived in this mansion. In Soviet times, there was a children's tuberculosis sanatorium. And today in this room there is a creative association "Premier".
A little earlier, another architectural masterpiece of this city was built - Rubezhansky's mansion. It was once the property of one of the richest people in Yekaterinodar. The mansion was built in the Art Nouveau style, but decorated on the outside with stucco floral ornaments and window architraves, typical of other architectural styles.
This two-story building with an open balcony above the porch is currently considered a monument of civil architecture of the beginning of the last century.
Hotels
As it was beforeIt is said that the hotels of the city, built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, are also masterpieces of the architecture of Krasnodar. This statement fully applies to the hotel "Grand Hotel" Madame Gubkina. It is located next to the house of the merchants Bogarsukovs, who built their mansion with a clear desire to overshadow the pompous construction of a competitor - Polikarp Gubkin. However, after his death, the wife of the businessman, Madame Gubkina, became the heiress of the hotel, who decorated the hotel building with stucco. She also crowned with an eight-slope turret.
After the Civil War, the luxurious hotel housed first a granary, then a prison. Nowadays, the hotel has been combined with the Bogarsukovs' mansion into one building of the Historical and Archaeological Museum.
The Central Hotel, which belonged to the same merchants Bogarsukovs, is not inferior to it in beauty. It was built at the end of the 19th century and was rebuilt twice - first after a fire, and later for modernization purposes. By order of the owners, the talented city architect A. Kozlov decorated the hotel with a turret with a bas-relief. His work was done in the antique style. The hotel had sixty rooms, each of which was luxurious, equipped with running water with a bath and washbasin. The hotel had a very expensive restaurant.
During the Great Patriotic War, the Germans, leaving Krasnodar, mined the building, but did not have time to blow it up.
Love Mansion
A sadder fate befell another "highlight" of the architecture of this beautiful city -"Mansion of Love", which belonged to the Kuban architect Ivan Rymarevich-Altmansky before the revolution.
There is a legend that he built this house in memory of his beloved - a girl from a Georgian family, whose parents did not allow her to marry an architect. They took her home, where the girl died. The history of the house is sad, just as the fate of its owner is sad. After the revolution, the architect was repressed, and his house was turned into an apartment building.
The house was built in Moorish style. There was a fountain in the yard, stone paths and a beautiful veranda. The house is currently in a dilapidated state.
Shukhov Tower
This building was designed by the famous inventor, engineer and architect V. G. Shukhov and is included in the federal list of cultural heritage. The Shukhov tower in Krasnodar was built from 1925 to 1935 and went into operation simultaneously with the local water supply, which put an end to the city's wells.
The water tower survived the Great Patriotic War, when they wanted to dismantle it so that it would not become a landmark for German aviation. It functioned successfully until the nineties, which it could not survive. The water tank from the Shukhov tower in Krasnodar was dismantled, and the tower itself was hung with advertising posters.
Currently, a shopping mall has been built around it. The view of the tower from three sides is closed by shops. Many believe that soon it will cease to exist altogether, in whichblame the ill-conceived policy of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Krasnodar.
Modern architecture
Modern buildings in Krasnodar are ambiguously assessed by experts and citizens. Among the undoubted successes are the stadium of FC Krasnodar with the park adjacent to it and the building of the office center on Krasnoarmeiskaya Street, Department of the Federal Tax Service. There are also obvious miscalculations in the form of modern attempts to combine the classical style in the building with new construction technology and building materials.
Some modern buildings fit very well into the historical landscape of the city, but most break the perspective and kill the historical panorama. By themselves, these buildings are quite good, but in the existing spatial context they seem to be extremely unsuccessful and destroy the historical appearance of Krasnodar.
Many historical attractions that are located in this city deserve the attention of tourists. They come here from all over Russia. However, it is better to think over the combination of old and new buildings in the context of the entire landscape of Krasnodar.
