The best art films, the list of which is constantly updated, rarely appear on big screens. Much more often these paintings shine at special festivals. But that doesn't mean the stories haven't been heard. Free from the laws of commercial cinema, storytelling is gaining popularity.

"Stalker", 1979

Author's films are created in different countries. Russia is no exception. One of the most famous films in this direction remains "Stalker".

The main characters of this story are people who go to the "Zone". The Stalker leads them there. No one knows what to expect from The Zone. There are conflicting rumors about her. They say how dangerous it is for anyone who appears there. However, the risk is worth it, because in the center there is a special room. Anyone who enters there can fulfill all their desires. Except Stalker. And he himself cannot understand why.

But can you find a room? And does it really exist?

"Dogville", 2003

Art house allows you to experiment. Therefore, sometimes a certain film can be at the same time an independent film.work, and part of a series. "Dogville" is one example of such paintings. It is part of the USA: Land of Opportunity trilogy.

The main character is forced to flee from familiar places, fleeing from her father. And what better place for her than a quiet town? This is what Dogville looked like. And the locals seem to Grace to be very nice people. Without going into unnecessary questions about the past, they offer the girl sheltered. But only their ideas are far from humanistic. They turn Grace into their slave, mercilessly mocking her. True, they did not know who they were contacting.

Grace's father, who once seemed the girl's enemy and was the main danger in her life, comes to the aid of his heiress. And with his support, the girl is trying to restore justice, as she sees it.

A Clockwork Orange, 1971

When the best author's films are listed, the list will definitely include films that have become adaptations of no less popular books. One of the most successful examples remains A Clockwork Orange.

Alex is very different from all other teenagers. And not at all because he loves Beethoven's music. And the fact that, together with his friends, he preaches the ideas of "ultra-violence", beating and raping. They terrify peaceful Englishmen. But one day it will end.

Alex is caught and sent to compulsory treatment. Over time, it gives positive results: the young man is no longer drawn to violence with the same force as before. And himreleased into the real world. But the problem is that not only can he not offend anyone, but also protect himself.

Melancholia, 2011

Author's films are free from frames. They can talk about the past, present, future or alternative time. "Melancholia", as it seems, tells about one of the possible options for the future. However, if you think about it, the idea of the film turns out to be much deeper than a simple apocalypse movie.

The film is divided into two parts, each of which is dedicated to one of the sisters Justine and Claire. The first tells about the day that should have been happy for Justine - the day of her wedding. However, the young woman does not seem joyful at all. Neither friends, nor relatives, nor a loving groom, ready for anything for the sake of his beloved, can make her smile. Justine cannot find understanding among others. And she herself, no matter how hard she tries, is not able to regain her desire to live.

The second part tells of a time a little beyond the day of the wedding. Claire treats her sister Justine for depression, who has taken up residence in her house. And also trying to solve problems with her husband and young son. Occupied with petty problems, she does not want to think that there is a much more serious trouble that can turn all her insignificant efforts into dust. At this time, another celestial body, Melancholia, is approaching the Earth with terrifying speed, which will inevitably destroy the human world.

"The Good, the Bad, the Ugly", 1966

The Sundance Art Film Festival opens newnames and new paintings that are worth seeing. But still, special attention is drawn to those films in which an interesting plot is combined with big names of actors. "Frank" starred such popular people as Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleason.

The main character, young man John, loves music more than anything. He dreams of creating and performing on the big stage, even trying to write the biggest hit of his life. But until he becomes popular, John has to work in an office and shift papers for a salary.

One day, an unusual rock band arrives in the city where the main character lives, the lead singer of which never takes off his papier-mâché head. Almost immediately, the arrival of the artists takes on a dark tone as the guitarist tries to commit suicide. They save him, but the man can no longer perform at the concert. Having appeared at the right time in the right place, John receives an invitation to replace the guitarist, first at one concert, and then completely go on tour with Frank and the band. But only the journey will be far from John's dreams, although it will change his whole life.

"Amelie", 2001

On a par with other films, the best author's cinema can live in people's memory for many years. The list includes those films that have stood the test of time and have not lost the love of the audience. Art house does not have to be gloomy and depressing. This proves the bright film "Amelie". The warm atmosphere and pleasant music take it to another level.

From her birth, Amelie was different from all other children. She was a big dreamer, although she grew up in a family of realists. After the death of her mother, she lived with her father, who plunged headlong into an abyss of longing. Having become an adult and independent, Amelie began to rent an apartment and work in a small cafe, where she made friends. And one evening, a girl in her bathroom discovered a hiding place, the contents of which belonged to a boy who once lived here. Amelie decides to return the children's treasures to the owner.

Author's films often touch on biblical motifs. The absence of strict laws and frameworks in which mass culture lives allows us to look deeper into the issues of the essence of being, the meaning of life and draw analogies with the most famous book in the world.

He is a popular rock musician whose fame is reinforced by the fact that he has never been shown in public. Eve loves the world and everything new. Some time ago, Adam and Eve decided to live separately. But love and feelingthe approaching disaster forces them to meet again under the same roof. And after some time, Eve's sister comes to visit the couple. Unlike other vampires, the girl hates to drink blood from bags. She kills people, which endangers all her relatives.

Author's films are a separate planet in the universe of cinema. It is almost impossible to see it in cinemas. Author's documentaries, short films and feature films are more often shown at festivals. However, despite the inaccessibility, this direction is becoming more and more popular.

In films with a deep meaning and a small budget, not only beginners or unknown actors are filmed, but also those who have managed to make a name for themselves in films with a large box office. The rating of author's cinema varies, as does the atmosphere created in it. This freedom allows each viewer to find something that will appeal to him.
