Any thing that exists in the universe can be described using feelings, emotions, physical laws and phenomena, rumors, stories and more. But, going back to antiquity, you can find out that most of the texts had rhymed lines in one way or another, and even the entire text was completely written in the form of verse. Speaking about antiquity, it is simply impossible not to mention the famous ancient Greek epic poems "Iliad" and "Odyssey", belonging to the hand of the great ancient Greek poet Homer, which are completely designed in the form of a collection of hexameters - this is how the ancient measure of measurement of any verse, which consisted of six meters, was designated. More professionally speaking, this is a sequence of rhythmic, rhyming syllables (within two to five), which are combined into a so-called foot. Some sequence of feet (namely, in the interval from four to eleven), in turn, forms the desired verse.

What is the theme of the verse

Having analyzed the very definition of a verse quite a bit, one can naturally ask what topics can be chosen for verses, what is the reason for the appearance of verses. I will note right away that it was not at all omniscient British scientists who noticed this, but people who lived long before the advent of such things as a computer and, of course, the Internet. Even before people studied writing, they noticed that any legends and stories are much easier to learn and remember when they are transmitted using poetry, using rhyme. Even in those distant times, people began to understand what a verse is, how it can be used.

There are many poems and songs based on one truth - there should not be and there is no reason to write poetry. We begin to speak the language of great poets at those moments when our consciousness suddenly perceives the world in a different way. It is the ability of our heart and head to work in perfect symbiosis.

Following from the conclusion that there is no reason for a verse, and that it can appear at any moment, it is logical to continue and affirmatively note that any occasion that made an impression on you, any thing that made your brain to think. Often, problems are chosen that disturb society onat this stage: it can be repression, and war, and some significant event, whether it's the New Year or the autumn harvest. Some poets, moving away from the earthly world, tried to find answers to many eternal questions in prose, arguing and wondering if these answers exist.

Verse size

Having gone far enough in understanding the meaning of “what is a verse”, let's move on to a more detailed analysis of its components, thanks to which we are able to compare one verse with another, estimating its complexity. Do not think that words like iambic, trochee, etc. should scare you. Synchrophasotron - one can still expect problems from this word, but not from literary terms, they, along with scientific terms, also have their own share of logic and consistency, which can be completely learned and “taken into service”. So what is verse size?

Poems, in their essence, have two main sizes: one-syllable (brachycolon) and, accordingly, two-syllable (trochee, iambic, logaed). Of course, there are others: anapaest, dactyl, amphibrach, dochmium, but, as they say, we will leave this to higher minds. Let's take a look at the most common.

Brakhikolon is the size of the verse that contains a word in each foot, and this word must consist of only one syllable. Examples of words are obvious - shadow, mother, key, cancer, oven, and so on.

Khorei is a poetic meter in which the stresses are only on the first syllable in each foot. In other words, only the first, third, fifth, etc. will be percussive in a line.syllables.

Yamb - the size of the poem with the stress on the last syllable in each foot. That is, opposite to the chorea, the second, fourth, etc. will be percussive. syllables.

Blank verse

In the work activity of poets, from time to time such moments have come and come when you want to try something new in your work, and then one of the assistants comes blank verse - a verse that is written without rhyme, but it still has a strictly certain meter. Do not forget that the verse for many centuries expressed the problems of the society living in a certain period, emphasizing them, clinging to the living. Until modern times and beyond, poets who write wonderful works of art in the form of poetry will remain significant among all people and will be revered due to their ability to have an intangible impact on the minds and souls of ordinary people due to the problems of the material world or its joys. Such great poets of bygone years as Shakespeare, Pushkin, Akhmatova and so on are still revolving on the lips of society.
