History of MAMT

Stanislavsky Theater
Stanislavsky Theater

Musical theater them. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko appeared as a result of the merger of two studios: the opera and drama studio at the Bolshoi Theater under the direction of K. S. Stanislavsky and the music studio at the Moscow Art Theater, which was organized by V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. Each of them practiced in their own room, according to their own program and had their own repertoire.

Since 1926, both studios have been located in the same building, where the musical theater is now located. They worked independently of each other, each had its owndirectorate. The only thing that united them was the orchestra that accompanied the performances of both studios. Soon each turned into an independent theater.

In 1929, a ballet troupe created by V. Krieger was attached to the studio of Vladimir Ivanovich. The merger with the Stanislavsky Theater took place in 1941, after the death of Konstantin Sergeevich. The repertoire includes operas and ballets by contemporaries: T. Khrennikov, S. Slonimsky, D. Kabalevsky and others.

During the Second World War, the theater was not evacuated, it continued to work and gave performances even when the battle for Moscow was going on.

Since 1951, a student of Vladimir Ivanovich, L. Baratov, took up the post of chief director. He was the first to stage a production of S. S. Prokofiev's opera "War and Peace" on the Moscow stage. It premiered in 1957.

Then the place of L. Baratov was taken by L. Mikhailov. Under him, the theater began to actively cooperate with the Berlin Comische Opera, with directors V. Felsenstein, G. Kupfer, with choreographer T. Schilling and contemporary composers.

History of the Electric Theatre

Dramatic Theater named after. Stanislavsky has a rich history. The building that it now occupies, exactly 100 years ago, in 1915, was turned from a tenement house into the Ars electric theater. It was the largest and well-equipped cinema hall for that time, which was closed when Soviet power came to the city. After that, various theaters functioned temporarily in the building. But all of them did not occupy him for long. Then the premises movedDrama Theater named after K. S. Stanislavsky. This happened when the opera studios of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko merged into one. The pupils of Konstantin Sergeevich, who studied dramatic art, separated from the opera studio and became the first artists of the new theater. M. Yanshin headed the troupe at that time. In 1950-1960, a magnificent cast was formed from such famous artists as E. Leonov, M. Menglet, V. Korenev, E. Urbansky, L. Satanovsky.

B. A. Lvov-Anokhin, who took the helm of the theater in 1963, became the successor of M. Yanshin's work. The repertoire at that time was quite unusual for the Soviet era. The most successful production was Antigone based on the play by J. Anouilh, where the main role was played by E. Nikishchihina.

The 70s of the 20th century were a period of crisis, which ended when A. A. Popov became the main director. He realized productions that had an impact on all theatrical art - "Vass of the Iron" and "Adult Daughter of a Young Man".

In the 1980s, A. Tovstonogov became the leader. Then the premieres of the performances "Noah and his sons" based on the play by Y. Kim, "Impromptu Fantasy" by V. Tokareva, "Housewarming in the Old House" by A. Kravtsov, "The Threshold" by A. Dudarev and others took place.

From 1990 to 2013 The theater changed a lot of managers. In 2013, Boris Yukhananov was selected as artistic director on a competitive basis. In the same year, it was decided to give the theater a new name that would reflect the history of the building, too, so now it is called the Stanislavsky Electrotheater. This name is given tothe second meaning is "theater of light". The reconstruction of the building, updating its appearance was completed only now - at the end of January 2015. A large transforming hall was created and an additional building with a small stage was built. The renovated theater opened on January 26, 2015.
