Modern domestic television does not often indulge viewers with fresh novelties in the world of television shows, while today they have become a full-fledged replacement for high-quality cinema. Therefore, Channel One, based on ratings, blogs and viewer polls, presented the ambitious City Slickers project, showing viewers the most sensational and conceptual novelties of world shows.

Project Idea

The "City Slickers" project was designed for a young, active and advanced public, residents of big cities who hardly watch TV, but mostly download new high-quality foreign TV series and films on the Web. Therefore, the program included the most notable premieres - documentary and feature films and the best shows. Moreover, more emphasis was placed on the show, that is, on the series, since this is exactly the format that is most popular with the viewer today.

The format was conceived as a night, so it went on air at 23:40 and continued until two in the morning. It was originally a summer project and then became a year-round project. In the summer, serials were shown on weekdays, and on the night from Friday to Saturday, documentaries were broadcast in the City Slickers project. The list of series and films was originally supplemented by broadcast from the studio. After the show, the presenters discussed the tape they had just watched. At first, Katya Gordon and designer Denis Simachev were the hosts, and later actress Alisa Grebenshchikova, editor Igor Shulinsky, model Elena Kuletskaya, and film critic Anton Dolin played this role. However, the presenters were soon abandoned and only films and TV shows were shown on the air of the City Slickers project on Channel One.

List of TV shows in the 2008 season

In 2008, the channel showed only 3 series, but what! That and mockumentary comedy show The Office starring Steve Carell. The series tells about the life of a small office of a large company and how colleagues with different quirks, complexes and habits get along in it. Watching how they work, swear, put up, endure their boss, can be as much as 9 seasons.

In the project "City Slickers" the list of series was continued by "Absolute Power". It's also a comedy series about British PR people who consult very famous and popular people. In two seasons of the show, many stars of British show business and sports appeared, howevermost of the characters are not familiar to the Russian audience.

Also in 2008, the channel showed Russian viewers a series that became a cult and returned David Duchovny's former popularity - Californication. In Russian translation, it is better known as "Californication", but in "City Slickers" it came out under the name "California". The series is about writer Hank Moody. Despite the fact that he is constantly depressed, alcoholic or drug intoxicated, or indulges in lascivious adventures with women, Hank arouses sympathy and interest. It's all about the charm of Duchovny, and ironic dialogues, and the romance of the protagonist. Despite all his adventures, he dearly loves his ex-wife and daughter.

2009 season

The following year, Channel 1 significantly expanded the program "City Slickers". The list of TV series is rich in comedy projects - these are "Secretaries" about four charming office employees who love to chat about men, and "Extras", a British show about extras with guest stars - Robert De Niro, Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller.

It is also worth noting the series "Lie to me", which became a hit. It tells about specialists who find out if a person is lying by his gestures, facial expressions and behavior. Tim Roth played the main role of a living lie detector. The series aired for 3 seasons and was closed in 2011. The best first season was shown to viewers by the City Slickers channel on Pervoi.

The list of series included the detective "Dirty Wet Money", the fantastic "Life on Mars" andseries about the five-star hotel Hotel Babylon, as well as a collection of the best Pixar cartoons.

2010 season

This season, the project continued to show new seasons of California, Hotel Babylon and added new hits. One of them is the now iconic Sherlock, a modern adaptation of the story of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Also added to the program are the comedy sitcom "Modern Family" and the show about the beginning of the gambling business in Atlantic City during Prohibition "Boardwalk Empire".

2011 season

This year, the list of TV series in the City Slickers project began to include not only shows, but also recordings of concerts of world stars. Among the series, the project received several projects that are unique in popularity. Among them is the detective serial film "Murder" with the unique oppressive atmosphere of the ever-rainy Seattle. The channel also aired the legal drama Suits and the detective series White Collars.

The beautiful historical costume series "Borgia" of the Canadian-Irish production appeared in the program, as well as the stylish and measured film "Mad Men" about American advertisers of the 60s, led by the mysterious and charismatic Don Draper. In addition, "Caliphnia" and "Boardwalk Empire" continued to show new seasons in the "City Slickers" project.

List of night channel TV shows in2013

This season, the most famous was the political thriller "House of Cards" - a series in which Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and Rooney Mara played. Unfortunately, it closed after the Spacey coming out scandal, but its first season, directed by David Fincher and shown by Channel One, was favored by critics and viewers.

You can note the British detective "Murder on the Beach" with David Tennant in the title role, the historical series "Vikings" and "Body Investigation" about an outstanding surgeon who began to investigate the crime.

2014 season

This year was not so diverse. Channel 1 prepared only two premieres in the City Slickers project.

This season's list of TV shows includes The Great Train Robbery and Fargo. The latter was highly anticipated by fans of the original Coen Brothers film and did not disappoint. The black comedy starring Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman won an Emmy for Best TV Series of the Year.

2015 Season

This year was marked by the launch and airing of the first season of the American detective series How to Get Away with Murder starring Viola Davis. It tells about the enigmatic Professor Annalize Kitting and her students.

Also, within the framework of the "City Slickers" project, the list of TV series was supplemented by "Aquarius" with D. Duchovny about the history of Charles Manson and the French fantastic project "Call of Sorrow".

Season 2016years

In 2016, the project showed the French mystical TV series Witnesses, which tells about the triple murder of a man, a woman and a teenager who were not a family, they were killed at different times.

The unbalanced detective Sandra Winkler has to solve this crime shrouded in mystery.
