It would not be an exaggeration to say that landscapes and interiors are as significant characters in the Crime series as any other character. The story of the investigation into the mysterious murder of a student of a pedagogical college unfolds against the background of the gloomy faces of a provincial town immersed in autumn melancholy. The atmosphere, as well as possible, is in harmony with the mood. And, of course, the logical question is where the film "Crime" was filmed, in which city. Filming from the first to the last frame took place in the Kaliningrad region.
Style unity
Producer of the series Arkady Danilov explained that the style of the film perfectly coincides with the aesthetics of the city, which managed to create the necessary tension, which was sought by the director of the film Maxim Vasilenko.
The film "Crime" is a Russian version of the Scandinavian project Forbrydelsen ("Murder"), filmed in 2007 by the joint efforts of film productions in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. In Russia, the series was shown on"First" channel in the fall of 2011 and did not go unnoticed by the sophisticated public. In the same year, the American television network FoxTelevisionDtudios once again captured the minds of fans of the detective genre, where they filmed the film "Crime" (TheKilling). The American remake was also very successful.
Who killed Tanya Lavrova?
The plot of the Russian adaptation is closer to the American version and in places resembles the conflict of the Twin Peaks film, the leitmotif of which was an unsolvable riddle: “Who killed Laura Palmer?” In the series, regardless of where the film "Crime" was filmed - in Europe, in Russia or in America, the victim is a young girl, and the investigation turns into an exciting puzzle with the question open until the very end: from whose hand the student died.
Everyone has their own "skeletons" in the closet
The series has three main storylines: the investigation of a brutal murder, the personal lives of the characters, and the political election campaign of the mayor unfolding in the city.
The story begins with the last working day of investigator Alexandra Moskvina (Daria Moroz), who is replaced by a new police officer Andrei Chistyakov (Pavel Priluchny). Together they go to the crime scene and begin to analyze what is happening. There are new clues in the case all the time. Alexandra gets involved in the investigation and postpones her trip to Moscow to see her fiancé.
The family of the murdered girl cannotdeal with grief. The suffering of inconsolable parents is exacerbated by the fact that the police cannot find the killer. The dull autumn landscapes of the city streets, the local cemetery emphasize the mood of hopelessness. The family lives in a house resembling a factory floor: gray-green color scheme on brick walls, low standard furniture looks out of place against the backdrop of high ceilings. The interior space of the pulp and paper mill, where the interior of the Lavrovs' home was filmed in the film "Crime", reflects the woeful restlessness of the characters. The absence of warmth and comfort in the house seems defiant, where the psychological weaknesses and flaws of its inhabitants are exposed.
All shades of gray
Restrained minimalist loft-style interiors are seen by the viewer in the offices of politicians and the offices of detectives. The clothing of the characters does not please with optimistic colors. Gray, black tones predominate, both in the everyday attire of investigators, and in the exquisite outfits of the prosperous city "top". The only bright spot is the pink pullover and light crimson dress of the deceased girl, who appears only in the credits and memories of loved ones. Pink is read as a metaphor, unfolding in several semantic planes, from a hint of a roughly plucked life that did not have time to blossom, to a sketch of an open spiritual emptiness that can no longer be filled with anything.
Detective duo
The turtleneck covering the throat and hands of the investigator Moskvina also surprisingly harmonizes with the closed, laconic nature of the shrewd detectiveand with the city where the film "Crime" was filmed. With Daria Moroz, by the way, the authors of the series had a complete understanding: it was her idea that the heroine should wear a turtleneck. The actress managed to create the image of a gifted, feminine and sentimental detective.
The character of the reserved Alexandra Moskvina's partner, on the contrary, is distinguished by impulsiveness and rude determination. A police officer, behind whom a long battle with drug addiction, now bravely fights for the truth. His element is speed and pressure.
The series contains extremely few action scenes. Here, the “shootout” of minds is more important than pistols. Even the episodes of detention and surveillance are created in the aesthetics of the best examples of art house. For example, chase scenes on a meat roar, in one of the locations where the film "Crime" was filmed with Priluchny as investigator Chistyakov.
People, city, movies
An intellectual game of investigators with facts and suspects keeps you in suspense all the time. The intrigue is not only preserved, but intensified as the plot develops. The series, in stylistic collaboration with the city where the film "Crime" was filmed with Pavel Priluchny, Daria Moroz, Lyudmila Artemyeva, Andrey Smelyakov, Igor Kostolevsky and other great actors, turned out to be a worthy film noir, which is popular today in Europe.
In Kaliningrad, where the film "Crime" was filmed, two more full-length projects were launched. The interest of the film industry in this territory is due to the fact that the head of the regionissued a decree on financial support for all films that are created in Kaliningrad.
