The reason for the beatings was Sean's unwillingness for his wife to build a career as an actress. Silento herself could not make such sacrifices, and in 1973 they divorced.

After this unpleasant event, Diane fell into depression, and then went into religious philosophies. John Bennet became her friend and mentor. They spent a lot of time together, engaged in the spiritual development of the actress.
