Almost all films with the participation of Savely Kramarov have been sincerely and passionately loved by several generations of residents of the USSR and the entire post-Soviet space for almost half a century. Without playing a single leading role, this actor, solely due to his natural charm, was sometimes remembered by the audience more vividly than the film in which he played…
Short biography
The birthplace of Savely Viktorovich Kramarov was the Baumansky district of the city of Moscow, where he was born on the unlucky date of October 13, 1934. In the very first days of life, a defect was discovered in the baby - the eyelid of the left eye was thickened, thanks to which the actor subsequently got his signature "oblique" look and a hooligan image.
After not particularly successful graduation from a comprehensive school, Savely Kramarov, the films with which we will remember in this article, decided to connect his life with the profession of an actor and enterGITIS, however, failed in the entrance auditions. The reason was the peculiar appearance of the guy and his memory. Or rather, its almost complete absence, due to which he could not really learn a single literary passage for the exams.
After an unfortunate failure, Savely entered the faculty of landscaping at the Forestry Engineering Institute, but he did not give up his dream of acting, having entered the theater studio of the Central House of Artists in 1954. Soon he went to military training, where he had a fateful meeting with VGIK student Alexei S altykov, who later invited Kramarov to star in the first film in his life, and thereby opened the door to the magical world of cinema for him.
First steps in cinema
After graduating from the Forestry Engineering Institute in 1958, a young certified landscaping specialist Savely Kramarov, who was only familiar with films as a spectator, managed to work in his speci alty for a very short time. A year later, his old friend A. S altykov offered Savely a role in the short film "Guys from Our Yard", which tells about the life of the Komsomol members of the city of Kolomna, who encountered yard hooligans led by Vaska Rzhavy. The image of which was played by the twenty-five-year-old Kramarov. This film was just a course work of VGIK student A. S altykov and was never shown on a wide screen. However, almost all participants in the filming recognized Savely's impeccable and talented game.
After a successful debut, inspired Kramarov finally decided for himself that cinema is his real destiny. He decided to fight for his calling, quit his job as a landscaper and sent his photographs to all the film studios in the country. Of the ten film studios in the USSR at that time, only Odessa responded, urgently inviting a novice actor to audition for the new film "They were nineteen." So Savely Kramarov, films with which the audience was not yet familiar, for the first time starred in a real full-length movie and, together with the famous actor Mikhail Pugovkin, brilliantly performed all the comedic moments of this picture, playing the role of soldier Petkin.
60s
Immediately after the premiere of the film "They were nineteen", the young actor was invited by the Y alta film studio to shoot the film "Farewell, pigeons", in which he was to play Vaska Konoplyanisty, another hooligan from the films with Savely Kramarov.
It should be noted that the actor himself, being from an intelligent Jewish lawyer family, not only was never a bully, but always avoided such characters. However, due to his peculiar appearance, he became practically a slave to his outstanding texture.
At the same time, comrade Kramarova A. S altykov, already familiar to us, who was finishing his studies at VGIK, was working on his diploma film “My friend, Kolka!”.
It is quite natural that he invited Savely to play the role of Vaska's bully again. This picture tolda story, quite bold for our country of those times, about a secret society of threes who take revenge on excellent students.
The actor himself later recognized this film, released in 1961, as one of the best in his film career.
What films did Savely Kramarov star in at the beginning of his career, other than those listed?
In the 60s, the actor managed to appear in as many as thirty films. Among which the most memorable were such tapes as "The Adventures of Krosh", "Without Fear and Reproach", "Knight's Move", "The First Trolleybus", "Tale of Lost Time", "City of Masters", "Thirty-three", "Ballad about the attic", "Damn with a briefcase", "Red, blue and green", "Gold watch", "Trembita" and "Abduction".
But real fame came to Savely Kramarov after "The Elusive Avengers" and "New Adventures of the Elusive", and unexpectedly for himself, since the cowardly bandit he performed from the detachment of Ataman Burnash appeared on the screen only a few times, and the artist, knowing this, by and large, participated in the filming for the sake of "tick". However, the image he performed turned out to be so organic and real that millions of viewers fell in love with it no less than the "elusive" heroes themselves.
Savely Kramarov himself subsequently recalled shooting in these films as follows:
"Elusive Avengers" Idid by the way … But you never guess what this or that picture will bring you. That picture, in which I invested myself entirely, went in small circulation, and The Elusive Avengers, in which I appeared only four times and said the phrase: “And the dead with braids stand along the road and - silence!”, gave me great success. I immediately became popular, went to concerts a lot and made money…
70s
The period from 1971 to 1975 for Savely Kramarov, all the films with the participation of which by that time there were already about four dozen, was the time of the real heyday of his film career and the triumph of an extraordinary acting talent.
"Impossible!", in which the actor under study played, without a doubt, the best roles of his life.
More than forty years have passed since then, but millions of viewers still laugh at his Fedya-Kosy, the clerk of the embassy order Feofan, Petya Timokhin, Egoza and the groom's friend Seryoga…
It is impossible to ignore the very short, but such a memorable role of Kramarov in the film "Mimino", where he played a convict at the door of the court:
- Listen, friend, you have good eyes, you can immediately seethat you are a good person. Please help.
- Sorry, genatsvale. I’ll help you in five years…

The last, fifty-eighth role of Savely Viktorovich, filmed in the USSR, was the ferocious Harry in the film "The New Adventures of Captain Vrungel", released in 1978. By that time, the relationship between the actor and the high authorities from Goskino had completely deteriorated, and he began to seriously think about leaving the country forever.
Conflict and emigration
The discord occurred due to the fact that the officials saw in the foolish heroes of Kramarov something other than just a comedy. After some time, a decree arose in the backstage of the State Film Agency prohibiting the filming of an actor in any films. Soon all domestic cinema was closed for Savely Viktorovich.
He was not allowed out of the USSR, because in the event of his emigration, the State Film Agency would be forced to "puton the shelf" dozens of films with the participation of Kramarov, beloved by millions of TV viewers. He was also not allowed to act. asked for help moving.
After this letter was read several times on the Voice of America, the actor was finally released from the country.
