The performance of the BDT "Drunk", reviews of which are in this article, is a production by Andrei Moguchy based on the play of the same name by Ivan Vyrypaev. It has been a success on the stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theater since the spring of 2013.

Director of the play "Drunk" BDT - Andrey Moguchiy. Interestingly, he initially graduated from the Institute of Aviation Instrumentation in Leningrad and only in 1989 entered the Institute of Culture at the Department of Acting and Directing.

In the early 90s, he founded an independent theater group called "Formal Theatre". In particular, the performances "Petersburg" by Andrei Bely, "The Bald Singer" by Ionesco, "School for Fools" by Sasha Sokolov were staged there.

Andrey Anatolyevich Moguchy collaborated with the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the Finnish Theater Academy, the Comedian's Shelter Theatre, even worked in the opera.

In 2013, he became artistic director of the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre. Storyline

The main characters of the performance are four groups of characters. The audience finds them in the midst of a hard alcohol frenzy. Among them: the director of the film festival, a girl, a supermodel, bankers, office managers, prostitutes. By the second act, they gradually sober up, meet each other, starting to form new combinations, many experience real spiritual insights.

At the very beginning of the performance, the audience sees a dance sequence. This is a bright dance melodrama, stylized as Broadway musicals. At the same time, the sound is not heard at all, but at the same time, the dancers start a frenzied dance, and the male corps de ballet dances on the verge of madness.

The viewer can only guess that some dramatic event took place behind the scene shortly before. And each scene has its own. But it is precisely this that is the reason for the fact that they all get together and get drunk. So, the director of the film festival finds out that he has cancer. A banker drunk on the anniversary of his mother's death confesses to a friend that he slept with his wife. And the supermodel is having a big bash on the occasion of her ex's marriage to her best friend.

The plot of the performance "Drunk" is difficult to describe, while great importance is given to scenography in this performance. On the stage, we see a ramp that is tilted, on the sides it is limited by metal structures and foam rubber. All this corresponds to the state in which the drunken heroes are. They constantly fall, rise and hang on top of each other. At the same time, in the performance, all the characters are maximally individualized with their own special degrees of intoxication, stages and shades of drunken intoxication.

Heroes of the play

Separately, it is necessary to tell about the brightest characters of the performance. Laura drinks herself speechless. The audience remembers her wordless pantomime when she stands on the stairs, holding on to the railing with her last strength, constantly waving her hand and trying to insert at least a word into the conversation or silently crying out for help.

Drunken Karl makes himself and his friend Gustav into gods. Carl has a sly eye, with which he notices the girl in the second act, hugs her, but at the same time constantly looks askance at Laura. This is how feelings and the strength of relationships are tested.

One of the highlights is the bachelor party scene of the office managers. It is expected that prostitutes come to him, who occupy a place in the very center of the table. The most sober in this company is the prostitute Rosa, who calmly sits and quotes lines from Iranian art-house cinema.

Ultimately, all four episodes are united by a sudden white clown named Mark, who dazzles everyone with his panicked runs. Most recently, he learned that he had cancer at an inoperable stage.

In the second act, most of the characters sober up, their speeches become more meaningful, they begin to find contact with each other, but there is still a certain detachment on the stage.

Karina Razumovskaya
