Not only in Slavic mythology, the swamp is associated with a dead, unclean, bad place. Since ancient times, the swamp has been frightening not only with a night glow, the lights of which are called “candles of the dead”, but also with sharp sounds, loud smacking, sighs. It seems that the quagmire is just waiting for self-confident, careless travelers to lure and destroy the unfortunate, very often, to the certain death of belated travelers, the marsh kikimora lures, which loudly calls for help.

Most legends describe the kikimora as a terrible creature, almost a monster, shrouded from head to toe in a row of algae and moss. You can rarely see it, but almost everyone can hear it. But everyone who hears her lingering call is doomed to a painful, terrible death in a quagmire. After all, a person led by a kikimora into a swamp feels terribledizziness, his limbs seem to paralyze. And it doesn't matter if he tries to run in a panic or stands silently, his fate is sealed. Also, the marsh kikimora has been seen more than once in the theft of the children of the villagers, who were left unattended. But there is another image, if a swamp kikimora is a maiden drowned in a bog of a swamp, then she looks quite attractive. Green-eyed, dark-haired, with sensual lips, a rather sexy beauty is quite able to captivate a berry or mushroom picker not only with pleas for help, but also with an attractive appearance.

Moreover, her slender figure is only partially hidden by mud, and her head is decorated with a wreath of swamp flowers. There is also a third version of the appearance of a mysterious creature, according to which the swamp kikimora is a girl who was cursed by her mother in the womb. If a girl died as a baby before baptism or was born from a fiery serpent-tempter, then she also has a direct road to kikimora. After the girl grows up, she is given in marriage to a brownie or goblin. The kikimora who married the brownie is naughty with her hubby in the house, and the one who made an alliance with the goblin is called the swamp kikimora and lives in the swamp.

Folklore character goes to the masses

Fairy tales, legends, cartoons and even songs are born on the basis of many Slavic beliefs and legends. Just recently, the famous Russian pop singer, actress Lolita Milyavskaya performed the musical composition "Kikimora Bog", the song turned out to be touching, drawing attention to the difficult female lotkikimora, who spends her days and nights alone, urgently demands to provide her with a husband. It's funny, especially in the extravagant manner of performing the eccentric Lolita. The most famous cartoon in which the marsh kikimora is the main character is the creation of the Soyuzmultfilm studio - the animated film Glasha and the Kikimora, released in 1992. A wonderful multi-faceted character is a swamp kikimora, a cartoon with her in the title role will always be interesting and entertaining.

Unbelievable but true

Shishimora, kikimora, shishiga - all these are the names of an ancient spirit, a fairy-tale character, a mythological creature. However, a recently published fact makes even the most inveterate skeptic think about it. In the Urals, a man who returned from hunting brought his prey. It turned out to be a green monster, all covered with mud, surprisingly similar to the prehistoric creature Ichthyostega. Although scientists claim that these animals lived about 300 million years ago and were a transitional form of life from aquatic to terrestrial living organisms. Perhaps, under the guise of a kikimora, inexplicably and incomprehensibly, a surviving specimen of a prehistoric animal was hiding?
