The Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater is the most famous in our country. His repertoire is very rich and varied. Based on the name of the theater, we can conclude that it is the largest in Russia. But actually it is not. It is not the largest theater in terms of area.

Birth of the Bolshoi Theater

Prince P. V. Urusov was the only person in Moscow who was allowed to maintain a theater troupe and hold entertainment events: concerts, performances and so on. He received permission from the governor himself. For his troupe, he was obliged to build a building in which all the performances would be shown. The prince soon went bankrupt. His companion Medox received the right to own the troupe. The duty to build a building for performances also fell on his shoulders.

Medox bought a piece of land on Petrovskaya Street from Prince Rostotsky. It was here that he built the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia. It only took 5 months. The building was designed by architect Christian Rozberg. The first name of the theater is Petrovsky. opening ittook place December 30, 1780. The Bolshoi Theater of Russia presented its first performance. Premieres enjoyed great success, but over time, attendance fell, profits declined, and actors began to leave the troupe. Medox was deprived of the right to own the theater. The building passed into the hands of the state. The theater became known as the Imperial.

Reconstruction of 1821

After 25 years of its existence, the theater was destroyed by fire. Almost everything burned down, only part of the load-bearing walls survived. In 1821, the restoration of the theater began. Osip Bove is an architect who was involved in the reconstruction. The Bolshoi Theater of Russia was revived for several years. The project for the reconstruction of the building was developed by the architect Andrey Mikhailov, and Osip Bove reworked it. The restoration of the theater was completed at the end of 1824. In January 1825, the renovated building was opened with the ballet Sandrillon. The theater received a new name, now it has become known as the Bolshoy Petrovsky.

New life after the fire of 1853

Almost 30 years after reconstruction, a fire broke out in the theater again, which did not stop for two days. Almost the entire Bolshoi Theater of Russia burned down, only the load-bearing walls remained of it. All costumes, decorations, notes, musical instruments were destroyed in the fire. This time the building was restored by Alberto Cavosa.

The theater reopened its doors to the audience on August 20, 1856. Its name has changed, now it has become the Great Imperial. The first performance played in the restored building was the opera by V. Bellini"Puritans". Alberto Cavosa redesigned the hall, thanks to which the acoustics in it became one of the best in the world.

The Bolshoi Theater today

The State Bolshoi Theater of Russia in the XX and XXI centuries has undergone a number of reconstructions. Now the building both outside and inside shines with all the colors. The biggest theater in our country

He is not located in Moscow and not in St. Petersburg, as it might seem. The largest theater in Russia is located in Novosibirsk. He appeared in 1928. This is the Opera and Ballet Theatre. The building in which it is located was built in 1931-1941. Its area is huge. The architecture is complex and unique.

Initially, the House of Science and Culture was conceived, consisting of several buildings connected into one, and certain institutions were supposed to function in each of them: a theater, conference rooms, laboratories, a museum, an art gallery, a library, a radio studio. The design was carried out by the Moscow architect A. Z. Grinberg. The exterior of the building is made in the Art Nouveau style of the late 1920s - austerity and the absence of decorative elements. The dome was designed by engineer Materi B. F.

The opening of the theater was scheduled for August 1941, but it took place in May 1945 after the end of the Second World War. The first production of the theater was the opera "Ivan Susanin" by Mikhail Glinka. In 2005, the building was reconstructed, and now it is one of the mostmodern theaters in terms of equipment. Its area is 40,663 square meters, and its volume is 294,340 cubic meters. For its huge size, the building received the nickname "Siberian Coliseum". Its dome is so large that it can accommodate the Bolshoi Theater of Moscow.

The building of the Novosibirsk Theater consists of six volumes:

- building with a cylindrical hall and an annular foyer;

- stage block 30 meters deep;

- side wings of the stage;

- semi-cylindrical back of the stage box;

- large hall for almost 2000 spectators;

- a large dome 35 meters high with a unique design.
