Starting from the end of the 5th season of the television series "Game of Thrones", its plot began to radically differ from the books that formed its basis. Because of this, fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels have less hope that Quentin Martell will appear in the series.
Quentin's Pedigree
Those who have not read the books, but are closely watching the events of the "Game of Thrones", this character is not familiar. Readers are well aware that Quentin Martell is the eldest son of the ruler of Dorn, Prince Doran, and his wife Mellario. In addition to him, the couple have a daughter, Arianna, and a son, Tristan. In the television series in Dorne, only the latter is present. Quentin and Arianna are not mentioned, although this may change in the future.
Among the distant ancestors of the Martells were Targaryens, which is probably why they always sought to intermarry with the ruling house of Westeros.
Appearance and character of the hero
Quentin Martell was not a handsome or charming young man. The prince was brown-eyed and dark-haired, with a broad nose and coarse features. For this reason, he was called the Frog behind his back.
Despite his unpleasant appearance, Quentin was a worthy man. It combined romance with prudence and practicality. Daenerys, upon personal acquaintance, noted that the Dornish prince makes a good impression and is pleasant to talk to. Despite this, it was difficult for him to find a common language with the girls. Because of this, he remained a virgin until the age of 18.
Prince Martell was well educated. He was fluent in the languages of the cities of Slaver's Bay, and was also good at writing and reading High Valyrian.
Quentin was also an excellent knight: he skillfully fought with a spear, as well as with a shield and a sword.
Prince Quentin Martell: Childhood
Long before the prince was born, his uncle Oberyn killed a member of the noble family of Ironwood during a duel. The circumstances of the death of the vanquished led those around him to suspect Oberyn of having smeared his weapon with poison. Although this could not be proven, a conflict arose between the Martells and the Ironwoods. To settle it, Doran sent his eldest son Quentin as a hostage to Lord Anders, the grandson of a nobleman poisoned by Oberyn.
Quentin Martell spent all his childhood and part of his youth in the Ironwood castle. At first he served as a page to Lord Anders, later became a squire, and at the age of 18 he was knighted.
Here the young man fell in love for the first time. The lady of his heart was the eldest daughter of the owner of the castle, Inis. However, the girl did not reciprocate the Dornish prince and soon married another.
Quentin Martell: Youthfulyears
While Quentin was with the Ironwoods, his father tried to arrange royal marriages for his children.
So Tristan was engaged to the sister of the ruler of Westeros, Joffrey Baratheon Myrcella, and Arianna was secretly promised to marry the son of the former owner of the Iron Throne, Viserys Targaryen. Thanks to this alignment, whoever takes the throne of the Seven Kingdoms will become the closest relative of the rulers of Dorne.
However, when Viserys died, and his sister Daenerys revived the dragons and began to raise an army, Prince Doran returns his eldest son home. He decides to make him his heir, but for this he sends the prince to woo Queen Daenerys.
Together with his companions, Quentin Martell is trying to get to the Free Cities, but due to the abolition of the slave trade, ships do not go there. On reflection, the heir of Dorn, under a false name, is hired as a squire in the detachment of the Ragged Prince. While serving there, he participates in many important battles and soon reaches Meereen. Here he finds Daenerys and opens himself up to her. However, the queen refuses to marry the prince, because in order to keep the city, she must become the wife of one of the local aristocrats - Hizdar zo Lorak.
During the wedding, the groom tries to poison the bride, but Daenerys manages to escape and she flies away from the city on one of the dragons.
Quentin Martell's Death Mystery
Taking advantage of the queen's absence, Quentin decides to steal her two remaining dragons and bring them to Dorne. Since his ancestors were also Targaryens, he assumed thatfire-breathing beings will listen to him. However, when the Dornishman freed them, one of the dragons burned him with flames and flew away.
Three days after that, everyone was informed that Quentin Martell had died. However, the death of this character raises doubts among readers - they hope that in the books "Winds of Winter" or "Dream of Spring" he will reappear and play an important role.
There are several versions confirming that the hero survived. Thus, some believe that the charred body found belonged to the Ragged Prince, and not to the Dornish heir. Perhaps because of this confusion, Quentin was presumed dead.
Another proof that this hero survived is the absence of a description of his death in the text. The chapter in the book ends with the fact that he caught fire, and the rest of the readers will learn from the story of his companions, which contains a lot of inaccuracies, and it looks like they are lying.
Also, the description of the Dornish prince burning is similar to Daenerys burning on her first husband's funeral pyre. As fans know, it didn't burn, as many Targaryens are immune to fire, and it's likely that Quentin Martell is as well.
"Game of Thrones" has become a hit and has not lost its positions for many years. However, not all the storylines of the books can be included in the film script. At this point in the series, Quentin's father Doran is killed by Oberyn's mistress, and she rules the state with her daughters. Circumstances are now most favorable for a Dornish prince to appear in the story, but will theyThis is the film's writers, unknown. In the meantime, fans are hoping that Quentin Martell will appear in seasons 7 or 8. An actor who could play the part has not yet been chosen by them, but there is already a fierce debate about the candidates.
