One of the favorite genres of cinephiles, those "gourmets" who love intricate plots, is a thriller. The word thrill, which translates from English as "awe", speaks for itself.
Trendsetter
Setting comfortably in front of a blue screen or going to a movie show, a person who chooses this genre anticipates pleasant excitement. Especially if he comes across thrillers with an unpredictable ending, of which there are a great many. The famous Hindu Manoj Nelliattu Shyamalan was a kind of "trendsetter" in 1999, filming his "Sixth Sense", a story about a psychologist (Bruce Willis) and a boy who sees the dead (Haley Joel Osment). With this picture, the countdown of films about ghosts who do not know that they have died began. These include "The Others" by Alejandro Amenabar with Nicole Kidman or the later "House of Dreams", which starred the duet Daniel Craig - Rachel Weisz. These are truly thrillers with an unpredictable denouement, where by the end, for some reason, white is already black, and black is rapidly turning white. But Shyamalan did not stop there, he still loves to surprise. For example, albeit not a very masterpiece, but his curious film "Mysterious Forest" also brings a surprise to all his viewers closer to the credits.
DiCaprio and others
Another talented director, Christopher Nolan, loves to confuse the viewer so much that one has only to wonder how the director himself does not get entangled in the last frames in the skillfully woven web of film storytelling. A striking example is Remember, a film in which the main character (played by Guy Pearce) was ill with a very rare form of amnesia. Nolan continued to shoot thrillers with an unpredictable denouement and issued another masterpiece - Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role. DiCaprio himself has greatly improved in recent years in terms of acting. He completely moved away from those images and debut roles in which the directors exploited only his external qualities, and showed himself in another, no less interesting work. It was an adaptation of the best-selling American novelist Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island, which was released a year before Inception. The work of Martin Scorsese can easily be classified as “the best thrillers with an unpredictable ending”, because the ending debunks all the guesses of the public and even shocks. It is worth mentioning the excellent acting ensemble of DiCaprio - Jack Nicholson - Matt Damon (and Mark Wahlberg who joined them), formed in another Scorsese film, which won 4 Oscars - "The Departed" in 2006. Both Hong Kong's Infernal Affairs and its US remake The Departed are thrillers with unpredictable endings.
Upside downhead
British director Danny Boyle, whose Slumdog Millionaire won the 2008 Oscar, loves to experiment. He shoots either an extraordinary story about drug addicts (“Trainspotting”), then he shows the tragedy of a person who is on the verge of life and death (“127 hours”), then he unfolds the picture of a global epidemic (“28 hours”). All (or almost all) of his creations are thrillers with an unpredictable ending. 2013 gave us the next controversial film of the master - "Trans". Starting as an ordinary detective about the robbery of a London auction, continuing as a psychological drama of the protagonist who has lost his memory, Trance ends with literally turning the plot on its head. Simon, so touching in his attempts to escape (James McAvoy), Frank, an ambiguous villain (Vincent Cassel), and Elizabeth, magnetic and wise (Rosario Dawson), brilliantly led their parts in the thriller. See for yourself by watching "Trans"!
