The Lezgi Drama Theater has existed for more than a hundred years. His repertoire includes performances based on national works.

History of the theater

The Lezgi Theater opened its doors in 1906. He began his career in a village called Akhty. The theater was founded by Idris Shamkhalov. Initially, it was an amateur drama club. The actors were workers, exclusively men.

Soon the theater moved to Surukhan. The troupe played performances mainly in the Azerbaijani language. The repertoire included performances based on plays by playwrights of the republic.

During this period, the Lezgi Theater worked in Surukhan in autumn and winter, and performed in Akhtakh in summer and spring. The troupe now consisted not only of men, but also of women.

After the Soviet power was established, the drama club received the status of a theater.

A building was built for him in 1927.

In 1935 the theater became known as the Lezgin Drama Theater. In 1938 he was named after S. Stalsky (Dagestan poet). In 1949 the troupe was transferred to Derbent.

Since 1997, this temple of art has a new name - Lezgi Music and Drama Theaternamed after Suleiman Stalsky.

The team considers its main task to preserve friendship between different nations, to revive the culture of its people, to deepen knowledge of the native language, to study customs.

The director of the Lezghin theater today is Alibeg Shidibegovich Musaev.

The troupe actively cooperates with educational institutions. In addition to performances, artists show concerts, hold talks, conferences, festivals, lectures, meetings.

The repertoire of the theater is not too big. Almost all productions are based on the works of Dagestan authors.

  • Farizat Zeynalova.

Elmira Karakhanova plays in almost all theater performances. She deeply gets used to her roles, she is sincere and accurate. Her characters are remembered for a long time by the viewer. She captivates the audience with her artistry and beautiful voice.

Valery Suleymanov is rightly called the master of the stage. He is very emotional,knows how to accurately find the character of the hero. V. Suleymanov is excellent at comedic roles. Many viewers call him "Lezgi Arkady Raikin".

Farizat Zeynalova has a pleasant voice, imagination, performing originality and the ability to create unforgettable images of her characters. In most performances, the actress plays the main roles. Thanks to her charm, even the negative characters in her performance always cause only sympathy.

The Lezgi Theater is the organizer and participant of several projects. One of them is "Days of Dagestan culture in Azerbaijan". Such events take place every year. Their program includes concerts and theater performances. Azerbaijani audiences are always looking forward to meeting the Lezgi troupe.

One more festival - "Culture is the art of the world". It takes place in Derbent every year. The purpose of the festival is to raise the cultural level of the population and popularize art. Its program is full of activities. The festival annually gives the audience a lot of new impressions and discoveries. Within its framework, performances of various theaters, concerts, exhibitions, solemn opening and closing ceremonies are held.

The project "We are together against terror" is an action dedicated to the memory of those who died at the hands of terrorists. Its main goal is to express its indignation and contempt for the evil spirits called "terror". Before the start of the action, a minute of silence is announced in memory of the victims. After that to the skyballoons are released as a symbol of a peaceful sky. The action calls on everyone to the fact that the whole world today should unite in order to stop the bloody madness together, shoulder to shoulder, and to educate the younger generation to be peaceful and friendly.

And also important are such projects: "Culture - for the children of Dagestan", "Evenings of poetry", "Music of the world - against terror", "Yaran Suvar Spring Festival" and others.
