The Okhlopkov Theater (Irkutsk), which has existed since the 18th century, offers its audience a very wide repertoire. And in addition to performances, many projects are organized here, including a museum. Famous theaters from Moscow come here on tour.

History

Initially, the theater was an amateur theater for a long time, it received professional status only in 1850. There was also no permanent troupe. Performances were shown only by visiting guest performers. But in 1850, one of the itinerant troupes remained in the city - and so their first permanent actors appeared here. Soon a wooden building was built, which housed the Okhlopkov Theater (Irkutsk). His repertoire at that time was classical, and plays by N. Polevoy were also staged. Including the first performance was created by his work. Playwright N. Polevoy was born in Irkutsk.

The stone building for the theater was built in 1897 according to the project of V. A. Shreret. He was in the service of the Russian emperor. The name of the outstanding director of the USSR N. P. Okhlopkov was given to the theaterin the second half of the 20th century. The reason was the fact that this talented person began his career here. The title of academic theater was awarded already at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries - in 1999. And in 2006, the team was awarded the F. Volkov Prize. Now the theater has two stages - the main and the chamber. Its artistic director is G. V. Shaposhnikov. Theater director - A. A. Streltsov.

Museum

The Okhlopkov Drama Theater (Irkutsk) invites the audience to visit its museum. It was created in 1988. The idea of opening the museum belongs to the Honored Artist of Russia V. P. Sidorchenko. The exposition tells about the history of the creation of the theater in the city and how the building in which it “lives” to this day was built. Also here you can see photos of those who developed theatrical art in Irkutsk. The museum also presents posters and programs of performances from the repertoire, photographs of actors, both modern and those who served here in the 19th century. Projects

The famous actor Alexander Kalyagin will arrive in Irkutsk as part of the Moscow troupe.

"The Mystery of Aunt Melkin" is a musical performance. The play on which it is based was written by Alan A.
