Last Friday, Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Feliksovich Batalov, a tall, mustachioed Sverdlovsk resident, who seems to have forever entrenched the image of a simple and unsophisticated Russian peasant with an open smile, celebrated his sixty-second birthday.
Today we join all the congratulations and recall the highlights of the biography, as well as the best roles of this actor.
Biography
Sergey Feliksovich Batalov, whose personal life and filmography became the subject of our discussion, was born on April 19, 1957 in the small old Ural town of Irbit, which is the unofficial motorcycle capital of Russia.
His mother was an intelligent and educated woman, descended from dispossessed merchants, had a pedagogical education and worked as the head of a kindergarten, while his father was an ordinary truck driver who soon left the family. After some time, the stepfather took up the upbringing of the future actor. When the boy was onlysix years old, he already ran to the local summer theater and watched the actors for a long time. At that time, of course, he still hardly thought about his future vocation, and although he really liked the process of what was happening on stage, young Seryozha, like many other boys of his age, wanted to become a pilot more. Therefore, after the ninth grade of a comprehensive school, he was even enrolled in an aviation technical school.
Become an actor Sergei Feliksovich Batalov was helped by a case: in 1975, he, along with his friends, who dreamed of entering the theater institute, went to Moscow out of nothing to do, out of idle curiosity went with them to an audition and unexpectedly for himself enrolled in GITIS. Friends failed the entrance exam and returned home.
After graduating from the theater institute, Batalov was enrolled in the troupe of the Moscow Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, having worked in it until 1998, after which he finally left for the cinema, which appeared in his life while still studying at GITIS.
Private life
Sergey Feliksovich Batalov met his only wife Zoya in 1985. The girl worked as a props at the Moscow Taganka Theater and was friends with one of our hero's friends, who played with him in the troupe of the theater on Malaya Bronnaya. Word for word, she brought Sergei to Zoya, and soon a noisy theatrical wedding took place. According to the memoirs of the actor, on the first joint New Year, he taught his wife to sculpt dumplings, cook jelly and bake cabbagepies according to old Ural recipes, which he adopted from his mother. In 1986, the studied actor and Zoya became the happy parents of their daughter Katya.
Surprising as it may seem, but in his personal life, Sergei Feliksovich Batalov is a principled teetotaler, despite the on-screen image of a drinking person stuck to him. This is due to the fact that once, while still a novice actor, he drank for courage and greatly disgraced himself on stage, after which he promised himself not to drink and has been keeping his promise for more than thirty-five years, being an exemplary husband, family man and father.
By the way, this year the actor's daughter Ekaterina will turn thirty-three. She grew up to be a real beauty, but she did not follow in the footsteps of her parents. Having received a higher economic education, the girl got a job at a bank, and does not even think about theater or cinema.

Let's dwell in more detail on the most significant roles in the career of Sergei Batalov, placing them in chronological order.
Critically acclaimed picture
We will start, of course, with "Cloud Paradise", released in 1990 and recognized as the best picture of the year according to critics.
In this amazing tragicomedy that tells the incredible story of the monotonous and musty, like an old cobweb, the life of a small provincial urban-type settlement, one fine cloudy day suddenly disturbed by the act of a simple and modest boy Nikolai, who decided to somehow break the dank routine and to pretend that he is leaving these Godforsaken places forever. The news immediately spread through the sleepy town like a blast wave, waking up all its inhabitants and rallying them with the only goal - how to see off their hero.
In the film "Cloud Paradise" Sergey Batalov brilliantly played the title role of Fedor, the main organizer and ideological inspirer of Nikolai's departure. Despite the fact that almost thirty years have passed since the release of the picture on the screen, it has not lost any of its relevance, nor that special poignancy that makes you watch this funny and at the same time very sad picture, which is the brightest event in the national cinema of recent decades, over and over again.
Shirley Myrley
In 1995, Sergei Batalov could be seen in the role of a funny, but very purposeful policeman in Vladimir Menshov's real comedy masterpiece "Shirley Myrli", sparkling quotes from which instantly scattered throughout the country. The film tells an extremely insane story of three twin brothers who, by the will of fate, never knew each other, one of whom became an authoritative gypsy, the other a famous Jewish musician, and the third a professional thief, whose goal was a fantastically expensive diamond found in Yakutia.
So begins a series of completely unusual and breathtakingly funny adventures of all the heroes of this wonderful film, over which, without getting tired, the audience has been laughing for almost a quarter of a century. Of course, this is not at all a sufficiently respectable age compared to the immortal comedies of Leonid Gaidai and Eldar Ryazanov, but still …
"Fur coat-woman Lyuba!". Positive generator
In "Fur-Baba Luba!", a 2000 film, Sergei Batalov played the role of the father of high school student Volodya Sidorov, to whom his grandfather Yegor Kuzmich once came from distant Siberia, bringing a diamond as a gift of impressive size and giving rise to many eccentric adventures, one of which was the love for the grandson's teacher suddenly surging over the old tundra worker.
Comedy "Fur coat Luba!" is a real generator of excellent mood and positive emotions. The film is verylight, funny and original, and its exciting dynamic plot and brilliant acting will not let the viewer get bored for a single minute.
Under the Pole Star
In 2002, Sergei Batalov played the main role in the TV series "Under the North Star", which tells about the difficult working days of the harsh crafts of Surgut. The action of the picture takes place in the 70s, and it seems that all the events of this film were really filmed at that distant time when the great Soviet Union existed, and all its heroes are real Soviet people who lived in an era later called "stagnation".
In the image of his hero, Batalov is surprisingly authentic, and watching him play is like a breath of real fresh air, especially against the backdrop of the dominance of Western blockbusters, for the most part devoid of any soul.
From love to cohanna
The melodramatic series "From Love to Kokhannya", which tells a romantic story that took place on the border between the Russian village of Chubovo and the Ukrainian village of Oseledtsy, was released in 2008, long before the well-known events that happened six years later. The bride Nastya lives in Oseledtsy, and her fiancé Andrei lives in Chubovo.
However, their fathers, a kind of heads of modern versions of the Montecchi and Capulet families, one of whom is the head of the administration of Chubovo, and the other is a police captain who keeps order from the Ukrainian side, have their ownan opinion quite worthy of the pen of the great Shakespeare.
In this amazingly funny, sincere and kind picture, Sergei Batalov played the role of Andrei's father, who met in a completely equal duel with his future matchmaker.
Old ladies on the run
One of Batalov's last notable acting jobs in the cinema was the role of Ignat Prokopov, which he played in the lyrical comedy series "Old Women on the Run", released in July 2018.
The picture tells about three energetic friends who have just entered retirement age, but who absolutely do not want to put up with it. They embark on an exciting journey to prove to themselves and others that life can start anew at sixty.
"Ladies on the Run" is very comfortable to watch. They can correct any bad mood, and watching the funny, unusual, and sometimes fabulous adventures of Zinaida, Lydia, Ekaterina and their friend Ignat is a real balm for peace of mind …
