Features of the Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival dates back to 1946. It was then that the ideological inspirers of the film event defined it as a way to attract attention and develop the entire film industry. Since then, the idea and mission of the Cannes Film Festival have remained unshakable, as well as the time and place of its holding.
Traditional May meetings fell on the 17th and lasted until May 28th. The 70th anniversary event was prepared with great care: from the formation of the jury and competition films to the design of the poster for the Cannes Film Festival. When the organizers had a question about whowould represent such a significant event for the cinema on the poster, there was only an understanding that the person should be recognizable, iconic and freedom-loving. The unanimous choice was made in favor of the Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. They took one of her images, captured back in 1959 on one of the roofs of Rome, as a basis. The event was hospitably met by the Palace of Festivals. The halls "Lumiere", "Debussy", "Buñuel" were provided for film screenings. In honor of the anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, a large screen was installed for guests and vacationers of the Cote d'Azur, where films-winners of past years were broadcast. The sets of the Palme d'Or and Grand Prix awards were waiting for their owners. The festival was preparing to present about 80 films in competitive and non-competitive sections.
Jury and special guests
Twelve iconic names in the history of cinema, chaired by Spanish screenwriter and director Pedro Almodovar, have been selected by the Cannes Film Festival Jury. American actor and producer Will Smith, German director Maren Ade, Chinese singer and actress Fan Bingbing, Italian screenwriter Paolo Sorrentino, as well as Jessica Chastain, Park Chan-wook, Agnès Jaoui, Gabrielle Yarred judged films in the main competition strictly and dispassionately. Actress Uma Thurman reviewed the nominees in the Un Certain Regard category. The short film competition went to Romanian director Cristian Mungiu. Sandrine Kiberlen led the Golden Camera competition. The host of the event was the brilliant Monica Bellucci in a luxurious dress from Dolce&Gabbana.
Procedure for selecting paintings for the festival
There are several different competition sections at the Cannes Film Festival, in which, according to the adopted regulations, certain films fall. For example, the "Main Competition" is filled with films mostly by mature directors who shot their masterpieces no earlier than a year before the Cannes film event. Their films must not be shown on the big screen and must not compete in other international film competitions. It also excludes access to Internet resources.
The second most important competition - "Un Certain Regard" - reveals young talents, directors with a great future. Winners of this award receive support for their work at the French box office. Third world films, Muslim and Asian works fall into this category.
The Short Film Contest supports newcomers, graduates of well-known film production schools. There is also the "Directors' Fortnight", it is made up of blockbusters, nominees and winners of the Cannes Film Festival of previous years. In what framework such a situation can put and how to influence the behavior of each character, this is told in the picturedirector.
Main Competition Winners
The Palme d'Or for Best Film went to Ruben Ostlund's The Square. A modern, ironic, conceptual story, according to many critics, deservedly received the main award of the film festival. The film tells the story of a museum curator who faces personal and work problems in life, against the backdrop of all this is the theft in broad daylight of his smartphone and wallet. The once restrained and pedantic hero decides on "chain letters" with threats, which he sends around the house where the potential thief lives. The film work tells what this act leads to.

Russian participants
Andrey Zvyagintsev, as a regular at the Cannes Film Festivals, pleased the audience with a lively, relevant and catchy movie. His work "Dislike" was declared in the nominations of the "Main Competition" of the last Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the jury prize. In the center of events - a married couple, which is at the stage of divorce. Against the backdrop of difficult relationships, indifference to each other, the heroes lose their little son. Searches, volunteers, police and the behavior of the main characters in this situation lead to a revision of the value of human life, family and love. The main roles in the work were played by Alexei Rozin, Maryana Spivak, Marina Vasilyeva, Matvey Novikov. The idea for the film came about thanks to producer Alexander Rodnyansky, who suggested taking Bergman's "Scenes from a Married Life" as a basis. This gave rise to the creation of a film masterpiece.
