Rob Cohen - American actor, director, screenwriter and producer - was born in 1949, March 12, in Cornwall (New York). The childhood of the future cinematographer passed in the city of Hueberg. There he attended the Hueberg Graduate School before attending Harvard University and graduating in 1973.
Career start
Immediately after receiving his diploma, Rob Cohen got a job as a producer of the record company Motovan Records, in the film department. Then he began to produce various musical film projects at the nearest film studios.
His debut work was a melodramatic film called "Mahogany". The main role was played by the singer Diana Ross, the star of that time. Rob Cohen later produced the films It's Friday Thank God, Wiz, Traveling Stars.
First directing experience
In 1980, Rob Cohen made his debut film - the drama "The Little Circle of Friends". The eighties of the 20th century were a fertile time for the director and producer: he shotthe fantasy picture The Witches of Eastwick, the fantastic thriller The Platoon of Monsters, and the action-packed fantasy with Arnold Schwarzenegger called The Running Man. Cohen worked as an executive producer on The Serpent and the Rainbow with director Wes Craven.
The film "Bird on the Wire" he shot alone, and the crime comedy "Run Through" with Michael J. Fox, a Canadian director and producer.
Epic productions
From the early 1990s, Cohen began directing only, in 1993 he released the biographical thriller Dragon: Bruce Lee, and then the adventure film Dragonheart. Among the director's later works, one should note "Daylight", filmed in 1996, with Sylvester Stallone in the title role, and the thriller for teenagers "Skulls" with Paul Walker.
Successful Projects
In 2001, the director shot "The Fast and the Furious" and the first part of "Three X's". Both films were staged with the participation of actor Vin Diesel, who managed to make both films commercially successful. "Fast and the Furious" was the impetus for the creation of an entire series, which quickly scored six full-fledged parts.
"Ste alth" and "Mummy"
Thanks to this success, the director has the opportunity to get access to other big-budget film projects. But one of them - "Ste alth" - was a failure, the loss amounted toabout seventy million dollars.
However, three years later, Rob Cohen, whose films already had their own audience, managed to redeem himself by releasing the epic film "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor", which grossed over four hundred million dollars, and this only in the United States. A sequel, The Mummy 2, was later filmed. And after some time, the shooting of the third part was completed.
"Mummy" - continued
Recently, director Cohen announced his intention to continue shooting the famous epic "The Mummy", the third part of which has already been released. Now it's Mummy 4's turn. Rob Cohen has not yet decided on the choice of the main negative character: it could again be Rick O'Connell, played by Brendan Fraser.
The first two films were filmed in Egypt, the third in China. “We have proven that our Mummy can move,” Cohen said. “Perhaps the shooting of the fourth series will take place in Peru or Mexico, this has not yet been decided.”
In 2013, the director shot the thriller "I, Alex Cross", which tells the story of a fanatical policeman and a maniac who could not be de alt with alone. Again a failure, low ratings and insufficient box office. After that, Rob returned to work on the third part of the film "Three X's" with Vin Diesel in the title role. A popular actor has ensured the success of the next series.
