"Curara Chibana": what is it? History of the legend

Rock is one of the most popular music trends in Russia. Over the long years of its formation, domestic rock has experienced both ups and downs, forever capturing many names in history. These are Viktor Tsoi, and Vyacheslav Butusov, and Andrei Makarevich, and dozens of other cult figures. Many of them are still successfully performing, gathering huge stadiums, including abroad.

Rock has always stood out from other genres, because it is not just music, but a rebellious spirit. It was banned in the USSR. You could get to underground concerts only if you had connections, if you really belonged. For this they were expelled from the party. But still, it was an island of freedom in a difficult time.

Legendary Ural rock

Ural rock is a whole separate milestone. The legendary Sverdlovsk club, where the first performances of current legends took place in the distant eighties, somehow magically became one of the main and revered in the Soviet expanses. From there came Chaif, Semantic Hallucinations, Agatha Christie and Yulia Chicherina.

New Wave

But life does not stand still,domestic music is developing, and with it new names appear. A new wave of performers is changing the very idea of rock in its classical sense, modifying it, boldly changing the sound and mixing styles.

Now there are no prohibitions, complete freedom of action, but new performers brought up on that music retain the essence and idea of their favorite style. Despite the fact that the Sverdlovsk club has been closed for more than twenty years.

Group "Kurara Chibana"

They are called one of the main groups of the new generation of rock.

About what it is - "Curara Chibana", they started talking in 2004.

"Kurara" appeared in Yekaterinburg on the ruins of a group called "Shamans". Their original mixture of rock and shamanistic rhythms was, if not a revelation, then at least the discovery of the year.

Creators of "Kurara" Yuri Obleukhov and Oleg Yagodin first met in 1993. But their first joint work appeared only in 1999. Later they were joined by drummer Dmitry Darinsky, bassist Alexander Pugachev and Polina Emelina as a backing vocalist.

Later the composition changed, but the basis remained the original. The group recorded and performed quite actively, but by 2004 it was decided to change the style and name of the group. Which was announced in August at the 50 Years Stratocaster festival.

The current composition of the Kurara group:

• Oleg Yagodin - founder, vocalist, writes lyrics, also plays keyboards and piano.
• Yuri Obleukhov - founder, guitarist and bassist, writes music and arrangements,backing vocalist.
• Alexander Volkhin - bass player, arranger.
• Vasily Skorodinsky - plays drums.

Kurara Chibana: what is it?

Fans had many versions about the band's new name. What is it - "Curara Chibana"? And although the musicians never hid the history of the name, they were also in no hurry to dispel the myths. And yet: "Curara Chibana" - what does it mean? There were even theories that the name comes from the word "boil". In fact, everything is easier. Kurara Chibana is a famous Japanese supermodel. The musicians have a song with that name. She gave the group a new name.

Curara discography

During its existence, and this is more than ten years, "Kurara" has recorded seven studio albums. Each new album was different from the previous one, but retains the style inherent in the group. The guys boldly, playfully interfere with funk and electronics with traditional esoteric motives. Dozens of singles and recordings of live iconic concerts have also been released.

Every second Russian music lover knows the song "Kurara Chibana", who sings it and what it is about.

Musician activities

"Kurara" is a frequent guest of music festivals. Moreover, they can be seen both in the lists of festivals with thousands of people (the famous "Invasion" from "Our Radio", "Movement", "Old New Rock"), and among bands known only in narrow circles, at chamber parties.

There are rumors that they will perform a new program at this year's Wild Mint festival.

Over the years, curaristas have developed a tradition of post-New Year hangover performances in their hometown.

The group often takes on joint performances. At different times, they could be seen on the same stage with fellow countrymen "Samsara", "Semantic Hallucinations" and the guys from the "Give Two" group.

Also, the guys recorded the official soundtracks for the film "The Box" and the series "Concerned", tour a lot in Russia and Europe. They are loved in Poland, Germany, the B altic countries.

Kurara still has big plans and a busy schedule in 2018. The guys will arrive in Moscow in July and September, at the beginning and end of August they will play two concerts in their native Yekaterinburg. On September 29, the band will perform in Yaroslavl at the Papin's Garage bar.

So, now you know what it is - "Kurara Chibana". This is the spirit of the new generation of Russian rock. A new sound that won critical acclaim, the masses and the mastodons at the origins of the genre.
