Other books by A. V. Dolina
Among other books by film critics, one can single out "Catch XXI. Essays on the cinema of the new century", published in 2010. The author in it tries to answer the question of the position of cinema in the twenty-first century. Despite prophecies about the imminent death of this art form, people continue to visit cinemas, no economic crisis prevents them from buying tickets for new films.
The author discusses these topics with the help of examples from the creative work of famous directors and actors of the "zero" generation. He also talks about the patriarch of cinematography Manuel de Oliveiro, who crossed the centennial milestone, and about the Romanian and Malaysian avant-garde artists, and about Italian political cinema, and about the followers of Russian metaphysic altraditions.
In the book "Takeshi Kitano. Childhood", published in 2006, Anton Dolin tries to understand how this Japanese film director, the most popular among the Russian audience, a follower of A. Kurosawa, who has shot more than fifteen films, manages to remain in his soul child. T. Kitano calls himself "a cancerous tumor that struck the body of Japanese culture".
Another masterpiece
In the world of cinematography, the work "Hermann: Interview. Essay. Script" was highly appreciated. The Guild of Film Critics again awarded the Valley a prize for her at the end of 2011.
The author of the book talks about the phenomenon of Alexei German on the example of his famous films, calling it a significant, but little-studied phenomenon in the world of cinema. The book talks about more than just the filmmaker himself. A lot of interesting things can be learned about his relationship with Konstantin Simonov, Rolan Bykov, Andrei Mironov, Georgy Tovstonogov, Evgeny Schwartz.
The author of the story spent many hours in conversations with the famous director to find out the mechanism of the birth of a new film language. He found out who the parents of Alexei German were, how his childhood passed during the difficult war years, what trace his work left in Soviet cinema.
Concrete facts from the life of the protagonist and stories generated by him, myths and real stories are given. All this resulted in a series of interesting stories in which the memory, time and work of the director are projected into art.
