Preparatory stage

Tools that come in handy to paint a fish with watercolors are as follows:

• Adequate size watercolor paper.

• The first stage. It’s worth starting filling the picture with color from the lightest areas, since it will be difficult to brighten them later. With lemon yellow paint we work on the top of the head, lower fin and tail.
• Second stage. It is necessary to moisten the body of the fish with clean water. Wet with small strokes apply undiluted ultramarine. Gradually increase the saturation of the paint by re-applying the shade.
• Third stage. You need to mix ultramarine and indigo on the palette, the resulting shade is useful for the tail and fins. The tone is diluted with water and applied to the unpainted parts of the picture. With a darker color, we are working on large folds of the tail and veins.
• The fourth stage. Neutral black draw the eye, abdomen and lower folds of the tail. Finishing the eye with olive color.
• The fifth stage. With a damp brush (preferably soft and round), we wash out the bulges on the tail. We do the same with the upper part of the fish body. If aIf you haven't worked fast enough, the color will most likely stay on the drawing. In this case, the sheet must be moistened in those places where it will be necessary to remove excess color. This will make washing the color easier. You can also use paper towels or, in extreme cases, toilet paper for rinsing.
• The sixth stage. Some parts of the fish's body need to be shaded, so the base of the tail, the crown and the edge of the lower fin are worked out in pale orange.

Seventh stage. This step is the final one. We need to create a background. Here you can let your imagination run wild. We will add some blue and orange splashes to the finished drawing
