However, you can create exactly the same atmosphere at home (by the way, this is a great idea for a Saturday night). How quiet it will be depends on the genre of the film. Some will choose a family comedy, while others will choose the scariest horror movie in the world. Fans of “tickle” nerves should definitely read our review to the end.

When choosing a film, we most often focus on the critics and the opinions of other people. Many well-known movie portals offer their ratings, according to which the lowest rates are always horror.

The most terrible and terrible pictures, due to their specificity, are not very popular. Someone is afraid of ghosts, others are afraid of meeting a maniac, and for others, horror stories even cause an attack of laughter - to please everyoneimpossible.

Let's be honest, creating the Top 10 Scariest Horror Movies was not easy. The main criterion was the assessment of the viewer, not professional film critics.

“Reverse 666”

There are some classic tricks that directors use in the horror genre. The scariest stories can take place in large houses, abandoned towns, or former psychiatric hospitals. Markus Nispel, the director who gave us such horror films as “Friday the 13th” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, chose the last place.

Interestingly, the appointment with the mental hospital is often used by newcomers. An oppressive atmosphere, thoughts about former patients, medical devices left everywhere and rooms upholstered in soft fabrics - only this picture is enough for a viewer with a wild imagination. However, the eminent director decided differently.

Pastor Conway buys a former hospital to set up a rehabilitation center there. For many years the building was without owners, so a lot of work needs to be done before the opening. Patrick is a teenager who desperately needs money, and therefore accepts any job.

The young man's friends decide to seize the moment and have a small party in the "psychiatric hospital". For the sake of entertainment, teenagers play the found videocassette in a rather unusual way - backwards. Innocent fun frees an evil demon who also wants to "have fun". The doors of the hospital are tightly closed, and mobile phones suddenly stop working.

At this moment, the viewer begins to haveassociations with the classic story about the introduction of the devil and exorcism, but the director surprises again. The demon is not going to choose one person, he takes turns instilling in each of the young people, trying to quench the insatiable thirst for suffering and murder.

It's safe to say that in the list of "The most terrible horror films of 2015" the picture "Reverse 666" should take one of the first places.

“The Story of Two Sisters”

Sophisticated amateurs who prefer the most terrible horrors are increasingly turning their attention to the work of Asian directors. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) was appreciated.

South Korean director and screenwriter Kim Ji Una took the famous “The Tale of the Rose and the Lotus” as the basis for the plot. Critics praised the picture a lot, and Hollywood producers even decided to create a remake, which was released six years later under the name “The Uninvited”.

After treatment in a psychiatric hospital, two sisters are "free". A loving father awaits the girls at home, as well as a stepmother who constantly takes some kind of medication. A strange woman gladly takes on the upbringing of the sisters, but they desperately resist.

Incomplete treatment, hallucinations and memories of a real mother - until the end of the film, the viewer has little understanding of what is happening, speculates and quite rightly anticipates the unexpected end of the story. The lack of expensive special effects is successfully compensated by the creepy atmosphere, clearly hinting at the insanity of what is happening.

We won't tell you all the secretsprepared by Kim Ji Woon. This is not to say that “A Tale of Two Sisters” is the scariest horror movie ever, but it’s still worth watching the original and the remake of “The Uninvited”

Key to all doors

The Top Scariest Horror Movies continues with “Key to All Doors” by British director Ian Softley.

Young girl Caroline, played by the charming Kate Hudson, gets a job as a nurse for an elderly couple. From the first seconds, she is impressed by the huge house, which has 30 rooms. You have to take care of a dumb and paralyzed old man. According to his wife, Ben had a stroke and will soon die.

His wife Violet is also not young, but still able to control Caroline's work. The girl receives a key that can open all the doors in a huge mansion. The exception, as the nurse later finds out, is only the attic door.

In the course of the story, the viewer learns the story of the first owners of the house - the family of a we althy banker, who faithfully worked for a pair of black servants. They were killed when, on one of the dinner parties, the guests caught them using hoodoo (witchcraft in North Africa). Moreover, the small children of the owners were also involved in the ritual.

Having learned the mysterious story, Caroline begins to pay attention to the strange behavior of her ward. Ben tries to crawl away, leaving scratches on the sheet, begging for help and throwing desperate looks at the nurse. But nothing helps - the inexperienced girl does not even imagine what kind of game the mistress of the house has started with her.

“Silent Hill”

The scariest horror movie ever - this definition could easily "try on" "Silent Hill". A bold project directed by Christoph Hahn, based on a Japanese computer game.

The adopted daughter of Rose and Christopher DaSilva suffers from bouts of sleepwalking and sees a strange city in her dreams. Mom decides to take the girl to this place to help little Sharon. Before entering Silent Hill, the car has an accident, but after regaining consciousness, Rose cannot find her daughter.

A brave woman goes to an abandoned city. Silent Hill appears before the viewer in four variations: the 1970s, the present, a foggy day (reminiscent of purgatory) and darkness (the embodiment of hell). Flashbacks tell a story that has left all the inhabitants of the city at the mercy of a real monster.

In addition to the oppressive atmosphere that the world's scariest horrors boast, paranormal creatures make a big contribution:

They cause fear and anxiety, repel and make us close our eyes. Some of the creatures were created using computer graphics, but professional dancers also got a lot of work - the director wanted to convey their suffering and humanity with the help of broken plasticity.

Film critics did not appreciate the plot. However, the visual component (set design, makeup and horror elements) still relished.

The second part of "Silent Hill", which was released in the fall of 2012, did not please even fans of the computer game. Directed by Michael J. Bassett, the performance received negative reviews. Experts noted the misinterpretation of the source material, fragmentary narrative, as well as a general decline in quality.

Meanwhile, the creators promise to present the third chapter of the film "Silent Hill". Whether the film will enter the Top Scariest Horrors, we will find out in 2016.

“Mirrors”

The main character, Ben Carson, was fired from the police force. In search of work, a man who is addicted to alcohol and suffering from unmotivated aggression gets a job as a security guard in a former department store. Many years ago, Mayflower struck with its luxury and was incredibly popular with we althy citizens.

The fire destroyed the once magnificent interiors. Surprisingly, only numerous mirrors were not touched by the elements.

A thick layer of dust and a huge number of dummies is all that Ben notices during his first round. Later, however, Carson is struck by the mirrors, which are completely dust-free, as if someone carefully wipes them every day. He begins to feel someone's presence in the abandoned store and see scary things in the reflection. On the advice of his sister, the former policeman decides to quit, but the mirrors kill the girl. Now the only way out is to find out what they need.

The worst horrors are often associated with psychiatric hospitals. It turns out that a luxury department store was built on the site of such a hospital - hence all the trouble. Bloody deaths, distortion in mirrors, fires and crashes - director Alexander Azha could not do without high-quality special effects. After viewing, especially impressionable viewers seriously bypass mirrors.

According to critics, "Mirrors" should definitely be included in the "Top 10 Scariest Horror Movies" category.

The sequel, released in 2010, greatly disappointed many viewers, not to mention the devastating assessments of experts. Weak acting and the absence of a tense atmosphere - this picture cannot be compared with the original. Do you love horror? The most terrible and terrible, as a rule, the first parts. It is incredibly difficult to shoot a high-quality continuation of the horror, and director Victor Garcia definitely failed to do it.

Oculus

The theme of mirrors is continued by another film included in the rating of “Top Scariest Horrors”. "Oculus" - the creation of Mike Flanagan, who scared the audience in 2014.

Kelly and Tim witnessed a terrible tragedy as children. The terrible death of parents was a real test for brother and sister. The boy was placed in a psychiatric hospital, and the girl was sent to an orphanage.

Eleven years later, the events of those days haunt Kelly. She tries to find out what was the reason, and comes to an unexpected conclusion. When the family moved to a new house, the father bought a huge mirror for his office, which influenced the behavior of the parents. Gradually, the viewer learns the details of the story, and Kelly tries to convince herself and her brother that ghosts exist in that very mirror.

The girl decides to experiment, the ultimate goal of which is the complete destruction of the ill-fated mirror. However, even careful preparation does not guarantee success.

“Oculus”, according to viewers, is the worst horror of the past year. Without expensive special effects and Hollywood stars, the director managed to create a high-quality horror movie.

“The hills have eyes”

The slogan “Happy is the one who dies first” alone makes the hair stand on end and the skin becomes covered with goosebumps. “The Hills Have Eyes” is another work by Alexander Azh, which deserves the title of “The scariest horror film in the world.”

Typical American family travels by car. At the gas station, the owner suggests a shorter route and they pull off the main highway. The desert that the Carters cross was the site of nuclear weapons testing many years ago. The local population was relocated from the danger zone, but some still decided to stay. Under the influence of radiation, a mutation occurred, and the creatures no longer resemble ordinary people.

A family trailer is trapped by monsters. In search of help, the Carters split up, and the mutants begin a real hunt. There are quite a few bloody scenes that are shot quite realistically that will make you close your eyes for a few seconds. The picture keeps you in suspense until the last minute, because it is impossible to predict who will win inmortal combat - humans or mutants.

On the wave of success, the creators decided not to miss the moment, and a year later the continuation of the movie was presented to the audience.

The most terrible horrors this time are happening in abandoned mines. The appearance of the mutants became even more creepy, but the main characters were more surprised. No, this is not just another family or group of teenagers. A new director always brings fresh ideas. As planned by Martin Wise, soldiers of the National Guard enter the fight against disgusting monsters. It would seem that it is these guys who will be able to repulse the “running wild” mutants. However, these are just youngsters in the exercises, and the inexperience of young fighters is visible to the naked eye.

“Curse”

Do you know why the scariest horror films are filmed in Asian countries? Because they even scare children not with Baba Yaga (a nasty old woman in a mortar), but with more creepy characters. For example, Tek-tek is the ghost of a woman who was cut in half by a train. She moves with her elbows on the ground, dragging her bloody stumps of her legs.

It's no surprise that the world's scariest horror movies are remakes of Japanese horror movies. “The Curse” is a Hollywood version directed by original author Takashi Shimizu.

“Astral”

It is impossible to imagine the state of parents who can do nothing to help a sick child. Josh and Rene move into a new house with their three children. Already from the first days, the spouse begins to notice oddities - things disappear or move by themselves.

The eldest son, D alton, is most interested in the attic. One day he falls down the stairs, and the next day he falls into a strange state, which doctors compare to a coma. For three months the boy is unconscious, and Rene continues to observe paranormal phenomena. In the end, the spouses move again, but this does not help.

After much persuasion, Josh agrees to a visit from two paranormal experts. While exploring the house, Steven and Tucker do discover activity and call for help from a psychic, Alice Rayner. The elderly woman has an explanation, but most importantly, she is able to help D alton, whose condition is not at all related to the fall.

Director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell managed to avoid the mold that only the best (scary) horror films can boast of. A realistic other world, ghosts with their own stories, a tense atmosphere and, of course, an unexpected ending can scareeven skeptical viewers.

The audience saw the continuation of “Astral” two years later. Troubles do not leave the young family. They move to Josh's mother's house, where terrible things also begin to happen, but this time the head of the family, whose body no longer belongs to him, is at the center of events. Another mysterious story filmed by a talented team.

However, the filmmakers did not stop there, and the third chapter was released last summer. The action takes place in the past, and it has nothing to do with the heroes we have already fallen in love with. Without the talented James Wan, the third part of the picture "Astral", unfortunately, failed to get into the rating of "The Scariest Horror Movies of 2015". The story about a little girl who is bothered by mysterious forces did not impress the sophisticated viewer at all. If we consider the next chapter as a separate story, then everything is not so bad. However, the first two parts leave a stronger impression.

Are your nerves strong?
