Amazing sound, comfortable seats and, of course, films - modern Moscow cinemas are very different from those that were thirty years ago, and it is much easier to buy a ticket today.

The list of Moscow cinemas is quite large, but they can be classified by belonging to a particular chain.

For many years, the cinema “Rossiya” (former name) remained the main cinema platform of the USSR. Less than ten years ago, the building was transferred on a long-term lease to the largest distributor Karo Film, which reconstructed and changed its name. For many years, the main events of the MIFF were organized here, and all-Russian premieres were held in the hall for 2056 seats.

In 2012 another page of history was turned. “Pushkinsky” was returned to its former name and again closed for reconstruction. Today, Stage Entertainment (Musical The Little Mermaid) is demonstrating its projects on the stage of the Rossiya Theatre.

After the closing of Pushkinsky, all the functions of the country's main cinema were transferred to the Oktyabr cinema center. Large hall, designed for 1518 seats,today used for premieres, regular releases, private screenings, festivals and gala ceremonies.

Five years ago, an IMAX hall was opened at the Oktyabr cinema. The center on Novy Arbat has long been a favorite place for Muscovites. Here you can not only watch a movie in one of the eleven halls, but also dine in an Italian restaurant and have fun in a cozy karaoke bar.

Cinema Formula

“Formula Kino” is considered the largest network in Russia in terms of the number of cinema halls. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Syktyvkar, Novokuznetsk, Krasnodar, Ryazan and Novosibirsk - a total of 34 modern cinemas.

In addition, 6 screens allow for IMAX film screening, which gives the audience a unique sound clarity, picture quality and immersive effect.

According to reviews, one of the best in the network is considered to be “Horizont Cinema” (“Frunzenskaya” metro station), which was opened in 1999. Key Features:

Despite its rather modest size, Horizon Cinema (Frunzenskaya metro station, 21/10 Komsomolsky pr.) is very popular due to its repertoire. Management succeededfind a balance between Hollywood blockbusters and concept films. Various performances and documentaries are broadcast here with great success.

Horizon's main drawback is the lack of parking and not the best service in the cinema bar.

Five stars

The best Moscow cinemas are usually concentrated in the city center. The Five Stars network is another confirmation of this: cinema centers on Novokuznetskaya, Chistoprudny Boulevard and Paveletskaya, the only exception is Five Stars in Biryulyovo.

According to the reviews of film fans, the best in the network is "Five Stars" on Paveletskaya (Bakhrushina street, 25). Until 2001, the three-story building housed the Central Children's Theater.

Today, visitors can go to a film show in one of the five large halls that were named after great film directors: Gabin, Ptushko, Chaplin, Roland and Kurosawa. Several cafes and bars, a waterfall, aquariums and a suspension bridge - the original interior will not leave anyone indifferent.

During the morning and afternoon hours there are special sessions for children, the Children's Entertainment Center is open on the second floor, as well as the Merry Train attraction.

Visitors note the stylish interior and incredible atmosphere. Main disadvantages:

• high prices (typical for the city center);
• too deep chairs in the hall, which is inconvenient for small spectators;
• do not accept credit cards.

DiamondCinema

The most modest on our list was the Almaz Cinema chain, consisting of only three cinemas.

The Almaz Cinema (Shabolovskaya metro station) opened in 1963 and for the next thirty years delighted cinema lovers with its repertoire. In the 90s there was a period of calm, and the halls themselves had long been in need of repair. The reconstruction took place in 2000-2001, after which the updated Almaz could please the audience with the modern Dolby Digital Surround EX system. Today, in addition to the usual chairs, the cinema has cozy sofas and VIP boxes with tables.

Unfortunately, after almost 15 years, the "Almaz" cinema ("Shabolovskaya" metro station) looks hopelessly outdated. Moviegoers note a slightly blurry image on the screen in one of the halls, problems with sound and the ventilation system, as well as shabby chairs. The behavior of the staff adds to the “pleasant” experience.

Pros:

• proximity to metro;
• democratic prices;
• promotions and the possibility of obtaining a club card.

35 mm

If you are bored with Hollywood action movies and primitive comedies, then turn your attention to Moscow cinemas with an unusual repertoire. For example, the arthouse center “35 mm” at st. Pokrovka 47/24.

The cinema is located in the Central House of the entrepreneur and consists of two halls.

Ambitious cultural projects, festivals and new releases presented in original language withRussian sub titles - sometimes there are huge queues at the box office. The original repertoire and affordable prices compensate for the lack of comfort for many, because the cinema is in need of repair for a long time. Perhaps the owners of "35 mm" believe that after the reconstruction, the place will lose its charm. However, viewers have a completely different opinion on this matter.
