The detective series "Liquidation" in 2007 gathered a record number of viewers from the screens. The film by Sergei Ursulyak was perceived by critics as contradictory. Film reviewers found many minor historical discrepancies in the film. But this did not affect the opinion of the audience. David Gotsman, embodied on the screen by Vladimir Mashkov, was the most popular movie character for several years. In his homeland - in Odessa - a monument was erected to him.

The series shows the events in post-war Odessa. The main character - the head of the UGRO - is fighting against representatives of the criminal world. But his task is not to send petty thieves to jail, but to find a certain Academician - the leader of a large gangster group and a former German intelligence officer.

The hero of the series "Liquidation"

David Gotsman is a character who achieved the popularity of Gleb Zheglov. He is a front-line soldier, scout, combat officer. What is known about the main character of the series "Liquidation"? Gotsman's biography includes many white spots. However, it is known that in his youth he, like most native Odessans of those years, had a relationshipto the criminal world. But I got on the right path thanks to my friend Mark.

Geroy Mashkov is the head of the anti-banditry department. Gotsman's methods of work are somewhat different from those of Zheglov, with whom he is so often compared. So, the famous saying of the hero of the film Govorukhin: “A thief should be in prison,” David Gotsman would hardly have said. After all, in one of the first episodes, he enters into an argument with Marshal Zhukov himself, arguing that harsh methods of eliminating crime and numerous arrests will not lead to anything good.

David Gotsman is a true friend, caring father. And he has no children of his own. Gotsman adopts Misha Karasev, a juvenile pickpocket. During one of the conversations with the boy, viewers receive some information about the life of Gotsman: all the relatives and friends of the main character died during the war. The head of the UGRO has only two friends. The first is the aforementioned Mark, a shell-shocked pilot. The second is Fima, whose tragic death is told in the third series.

History of filmmaking

In 2004, the director of the studio, where the series was later filmed, had the idea to create a film about the events in post-war Odessa. At the same time, one that would resemble "The meeting place cannot be changed." Some time later, Alexey Poyarkov started writing the script.

What is the reason for the popularity of the hero Mashkov? David Gotsman is a unique character in some way. He leads an almost ascetic life, fights thieves, but does notshoots at them, but rather negotiates with them. Plus, it's not without romance.

Vladimir Mashkov spent about a year in Odessa. Communicated with employees of the Odessa police, and with criminal authorities. Mastered a special jargon. And although later, after the release of the series on the screens, linguists and historians began to look for inconsistencies in the speech of the characters with the peculiarities of the real Odessa dialect, ordinary Odessans were delighted with the image created by Vladimir Mashkov. The actor has become associated with the character, despite a number of other roles in big-budget films.

David Gotsman: prototypes

Before the start, the directors and actors got acquainted with the case of David Kurlyand. He is the prototype of the main character. But not the only one. According to the opinion of NKVD pensioners who served in Odessa in the forties, the image of Gotsman is collective. His grip reminds me of Artem Kuzmenko, who put things in order in Odessa even before the war and rose to the rank of major general. Odessans saw in the hero Mashkov and Viktor Pavlov, who became famous thanks to the exposure of a gang consisting of deserters.

But who is David Courland? After all, this person is the main prototype of Gotsman.

This man was born in Odessa, in 1913. In the early 1920s Kurland's father died. The boy was sent to an orphanage, from where his older brother later took him. Courland participated in the defense of Odessa (1941). During the war, he also served in the front-line groups of the NKVD. Work in the criminal investigation department began after the war. In 1953David Kurlyand took the post of head of the first police department. Since 1958, he lectured at a special police school.

David Kurlyand died in 1993. His relatives reacted differently to the film image of Vladimir Mashkov. Kurland's son said that Gotsman had nothing to do with his father. The grandson claimed that the actor managed to convey exactly the character of his grandfather.

For the role of David Gotsman, Mashkov received the Golden Duke award and was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Odessa.
