Indian cinema star Bobby Deol, famous for his films in Hindi, belongs to an acting dynasty widely known both at home and all over the world. He was born on January 27, 1967 in the city of Bombay, having received the name Vijay Singh Deol at birth.
Family and parents
The boy's parents were the famous 1960s actor Dharmendra and his first wife Prakash Kaur. In addition to the future star of Indian cinema, Bobby Deola, three more children grew up in the family - the older brother Sunny, who also made a successful career on the screen, and two younger sisters, Ajita and Vijita.
Later, when his father remarried, Bobby had two half-sisters, Ash and Ahan. The boy's stepmother was the famous actress and dancer Hema Malini, famous for her roles in such box-office films as "Zita and Gita" and "Revenge and the Law", where she starred with her husband.
Private life
Little is known about Bobby Deol's personal life. He is married toTanya Ahuja, with whom she brings up two sons - the eldest Aryaman and the youngest Dharam, named after his grandfather, who were born in 2001 and 2004, respectively.
The actor's colleagues on the set in their interviews note that he is very attached to his family, devoted to his wife, adores his sons and always rushes home if he has to work away from his relatives. It is also known that Bobby is fluent in three languages - his native Punjabi, Hindi and English.
First success
The creative biography of Bobby Deol is a series of ups and downs. He first appeared on screen at the age of 10, when he played his father as a child in the film "Eternal Love Tale". However, the real fame came to the young actor only in 1995, when he was lucky enough to get a role in the film "Rainy Season" (Barsaat; English Rain).
Here, Bobby plays a young man who has moved to the city from a small village and, through a series of accidents, finds himself embroiled in a confrontation between a criminal gang and corrupt policemen. Part of the filming took place in Scotland, where the horse riding episode ended with a broken leg for the actor.
Injury kept Deol out of several promotional photo shoots, but the film's significant success more than made up for any missed contracts. The role in the film "Monsoon" brought Bobby Deol Bollywood's highest award - the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
Most successfulfilms from 1997-2002
Several of Bobby Deol's films were a resounding success in his homeland. In 1997, as part of a brilliant ensemble cast, Deol starred in Rajiv Rai's thriller Gupt (Eng. Secret), where he plays the role of Sakhir, a young man who was unjustly accused of killing his adoptive father. The tape and its soundtrack were highly acclaimed by critics and film lovers, which brought a natural commercial success.
The film "Good Name" (eng. Soldier), released on screens in 1998, brought Deol another portion of recognition. Thriller about the theft of weapons and corruption in the army, where the actor played a mysterious character, as it turns out in the course of the story - the son of a man accused of smuggling, the audience appreciated and ensured the box office.
In 1999, Deol's older brother Sunny decides to make his directorial debut. As a result, the picture "Charmed by You" (Dillagi) was released, which became the first where the brothers Sunny and Bobby played together. From the point of view of criticism, the plot of the tape turned out to be far-fetched and predictable, but the acting work of Bobby Deol was evaluated very positively.
In 2002, Bobby was again nominated for a Filmfare Award, now for his role as a successful businessman in the thriller "Confidant's Dream" (Humraaz; eng. Confidant), the creators of which were inspired by the American film "Perfect Murder". However, this time the award passed him, and the actor decided to take a break from his career. He returned to filming only in 2004.
Totalbetween 1997 and 2002, Bobby Deol appeared in 9 films, 3 of which ended in clear failures.
Successes 2004-2017
Return to work did not bring the desired success to actor Bobby Deol, the next breakthrough in his career happened only in 2005. After a series of mediocre films, he takes part in the film "Friends Forever" (Dosti; English Friends Forever), where the core of the plot is the long-term disinterested friendship of two men from different walks of life. At home, the film had little success, but became the highest grossing among Indian films in the UK.
In 2007, the sports drama "Apne; eng. Ours" was presented to the audience with the participation of the entire male half of the Deol family. Bobby and Sunny Deol played the roles of boxing brothers who train hard in the hope of becoming champions, their elderly mentor was played by the head of the family, Dharmendra. The film became very popular in northern India and did well in the UK.
Relatively successful Bobby Deol can be called a minor role in the 2008 film "Close Friends" (Dostana; English Friendship). The uniqueness of the picture was added by the fact that this is the first creation of Bollywood, completely filmed in Miami. The annual box office recap showed that the film ranked 8th among Hindi films.
Creative failures prompted the actor to take another time out - from 2013 to 2017 he did not star in any film. These years have not become a period of inactivity for him - BobbyI tried myself as a DJ, and quite successfully.
However, the return to the profession was not triumphant. Bobby Deol's first film after a long break was a fiasco. To date, the actor is busy in two projects - "Crazy Family-3" (Yamla Pagla Deewana 3) and "Race-3" (Race 3).
The brightest failures
Along with successful and ordinary films, Bobby Deol's career has also been marked by outright failures, noted by the most authoritative Indian film critics.
In 2000, Bobby appeared on the screen as a hired killer in the film "Scorpio", the plot of which had clear references to Luc Besson's film "Leon". Both the tape itself and Deol's acting received the most negative ratings. Respected in India critic Sakanya Verma in her review called it one of the most unpleasant films of the year, and Bobby advised to go to acting school.
Deol's performances in "Keeping It Raining" (2005) and "Meeting That Made Love" (2007), despite brilliant casts, were box office failures, and Bobby's skill again received a dose of poison from critics. Well-known reviewer Zia-us-Salam was surprised at his low level of performance and mediocrity.
The result of many years of film career Bobby Deol were 35 films. Even numerous failures did not alienate loyal fans from him - Bobby is one of the most beloved artists not only in his homeland and among Indian emigrants in Britain, but also amongBollywood cinema lovers around the world.
