Drawing hands is quite difficult and the best way to learn it is to practice a lot. Anime hands are a little easier to draw than realistic ones, since a lot of the details are simplified. But the overall structure and proportions of the hands remain the same.

Drawing an open palm

Beginners should first learn how to draw a hand with an open palm in order to better understand the proportions. You can use other drawings or photographs as a reference, or just carefully examine your own hands.

Here's how to draw anime arms step by step:

1. Roughly sketch the palm and then draw another shape to represent the base of the thumb.
2. Make a sketch of the fingers. Their length is approximately equal to the length of the palm. The tip of the thumb, if drawn at a 45 degree angle, is just below the 2nd knuckle bone of the index finger.
3. When drawing fingers, note that they consist of 3 parts. The distance from the tip of the finger to the first joint is the shortest, and from the knuckle to the lower joint is the longest.
4. Draw the general shape of the fingers.
5. Erase extra lines, add details.

Drawing brush on the side

Side view - a difficult position for the image of the brush, but it occurs most often. To draw an anime hand in this position, first sketch out the brush without fingers, and then draw the shape of the base of the thumb

Draw the thumb and forefinger, which are clearly visible. Then, behind the index finger, begin to draw the tips of the remaining fingers. This hand position can be used when depicting a character carrying a bag or package.

First draw the general shape of the whole arm in this position. Next, draw a side view of the palm. After that, outline all the fingers and sketch the little finger.

To get a better idea of how to draw the rest of the fingers, you can use the same method as with the side of the hand.

Mark the proportions and position of the thumb. Erase unnecessary lines, outline and add details.

Drawing a fist

To draw an anime hand,clenched into a fist, first make a rough sketch that resembles a pentagon with rounded tops. Draw a slightly uneven rounded rectangle at the top to mark the location of the fingers.

Draw the base of the thumb and outline the location of the rest of it. After that, draw the finger itself.

The rest of the fingers should be drawn a little thicker than usual to show that they are compressed. Also keep in mind that in a clenched fist, the fingers diverge slightly from the base of the thumb.

After you complete the sketch, erase the excess and add the necessary details.

Male and female hands

Male and female hands in anime are drawn basically the same way. However, close-ups of hands have a few differences.

To draw the hands of an anime girl, they are usually made thinner and more graceful with long nails. Men's hands are usually made relatively larger in size.
