Farther and farther from us are the events of the most devastating and bloody war of the twentieth century. The younger generation is barely aware of the horrors that their ancestors had to endure. The apocalypse of World War II is fading, and now only cinema can bring back the feeling of a nightmare experienced by that generation.

To remember

A lot of feature films and TV series have been shot, truthfully and not very telling about those days.

One can dispute the credibility of blockbusters made by American or Western directors such as The English Patient, Saving Private Ryan, which have received critical acclaim and many film awards. And you can take them for granted. Russian directors have addressed the topic more than once: “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” make you cry even today, and Bondarchuk’s “Stalingrad” impresses with its special effects and the thoroughness of the recreated scenery. But documentary chronicles (the film "Apocalypse: World War II" can serve as an example) are witnesses whose veracity cannot be disputed. Exactly atIn these frames, terrible pictures of the Holocaust appear again and again, when the Nazis wanted to destroy the Jewish nation, concentration camps where inhuman experiments were carried out on their own kind, battles that cannot be counted.

Documents testify

The directors of this documentary series "in all its glory" showed what the apocalypse of World War II is.

They collected a lot of archival materials, allowing themselves only to colorize the black and white film. Only the footage depicting the brutality of the Holocaust remained monochrome. Two directors, a woman and a man: Isabella Clark and Daniel Castatelle, took as their basis the cadres of war correspondents and those who were able to capture the horrors of fascism. Sometimes we are jarred by coloring what should, it would seem, remain black and white. In a series that shows the apocalypse of World War II, this is not so important. Of course, maybe the French directors were slightly biased and did not reveal the full power of Slavic patriotism, which especially flourished during the years of that war. We, Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, those who then belonged to the “Unbreakable Union of Free Republics”, may be offended. Yes, the emphasis is not on the exploits of Alexander Matrosov, the "Young Guard" or pioneer heroes. But here is another task. People simply show the chronicle of events through the eyes of participants in those events.

So that it doesn't happen again

This National Geographic project depicting the apocalypseWorld War II is dedicated to landing operations that played an important role in the development of events, cruel and terrible battles, and the US nuclear attack on Japan. Now one can deny the role of that test of a new, one might say, experimental bomb, on civilians. But this, too, is one of the hardest pages to comprehend, with which the 20th century is rich. This was another bold point put by the shtatovites and, perhaps, made the authority of the state even more solid and indestructible. The blitzkrieg of the Nazis, who were able to conquer many developed countries of Europe, take them by surprise and keep them in their tenacious paws for many years, is shown very clearly. This film is a warning so that the WW2 apocalypse does not happen again.
