Artists are amazing people who can create whole worlds on paper. But before becoming a recognized master, you need to learn a lot. In school, the first thing they learn is the alphabet. In painting, everything starts with the image of simple geometric shapes: a cube, a cone, a pyramid, etc. Today we will talk about how to draw a ball.

Smooth circle without compass

To work you will need: a simple pencil, a sheet of paper, an eraser. Great if you have a ball model. For this purpose, you can take a ball, a round orange or another object. Putting it under the lamp, you will clearly see the play of chiaroscuro.

How to draw a ball with a pencil? Follow our instructions:

1. Place a dot that will become the center of the ball. We draw a vertical and horizontal line passing through this point. They must correspond to the expected radius of the sphere. Then we denote two diagonal lines of the same length, intersecting at the central point.
2. On this base, draw a square, the corners of which will coincide with the diagonal lines.
3. Inscribe a rhombus into the resulting figure. Its vertices are arranged along horizontal and vertical lines.
4. Draw a ball with a dotted line. At intersections with a square and a rhombus, it will fit snugly against them, it remains to connect these points with smooth rounded lines. When the resulting shape suits you, the auxiliary features can be erased.

Hatching

How to draw a volumetric ball? To do this, carefully examine the previously taken ball or orange. Point the light at them so that it falls from above and a little from the side. You will see that half of the ball is lit and the other half is dark. A shadow falls on the table behind the figure. With a line, delimit the transition of the illuminated part of the ball to the unlit one. This is the darkest place.

Below it is a reflex - a part of the sphere that reflects light from the table, neighboring objects. Draw a rounded line and separate this small area. Mark the drop shadow, apply hatching without touching the reflection at this stage.

It's time to designate the lightest highlight on the ball. We shade the space around it, barely pressing the pencil. Shade the reflex with a light tone. When shading, remember the shape of the figure. As a result, we get several gradations of light. The transitions between them must be gently shaded. The drawing is ready.

Christmas ball

If you want to work with paints, the drawn circle can be turned into a Christmas decoration. How to draw a ball for a Christmas tree? Start by drawing a low cylinder attachment on the side or top of the circle. Mark the teeth on the clip to give it a believable look. Draw patterns on the toy with a pencil.

On the palette, select the main tone, apply it without going beyond the edges. Glare on the ball can be obtained with a wet brush or by adding white paint. Put a lighter shade around them. The darkened side is shaded in black or purple. Make the transitions between colors smooth, blurry. Draw New Year's patterns with gouache. It remains to paint the cap with the eyelet, the contrasting background and the shadow cast by the toy.

Travel balloon

The ability to draw a sphere is necessary for an artist to depict more complex subjects. After all, all the objects that surround us consist of simple geometric shapes. We will verify this by drawing a balloon for flights according to the instructions below:

1. Draw a ball step by step, using a square and a rhombus for support. Erase the extra lines, leaving a vertical line through the center. Lengthen it down.
2. Add a small three-dimensional cube to the line, which will later turn into a basket.
3. Be more specific about the outline of the balloon, which tapers at its base to resemble an inverted light bulb. To do this, draw lines from the sides of the circle down, draw cables from them to the basket. Immediately below the ball, hang a cylindrical heating pad on the central rope.
4. With ovals mark the bottom of the dome and the transverse ropes encircling it.
5. Smooth lines mark the longitudinal ropes on the balloon.

Add details

How to draw a balloon that will look believable? Let's take care of the details. On the dome, draw slices along the axial lines, like an orange. You can add stripes, patterns. Let's designate the basket in more detail, attach handles to it. Let's put people inside. Let's erase the extra lines. When painting the balloon, don't forget about the highlights on each side of the dome. Then it will look voluminous.

It's the landscape's turn. Draw blue sky, white clouds. Below - green forests, fields, lakes. To give the drawing dynamics, depict flying birds, moving people on the ground. A beautiful picture may well become an interior decoration.

How to draw a ball? At first glance, there is nothing complicated. However, in reality, you will need a lot of effort to make the strokes neat and the play of light and shade believable. Having mastered the laws of building elementary forms, the layout of highlights and dimming, you will be ready to create masterpieces. All it takes is patience and sincere desire.
