The circus in Nizhny Novgorod was opened back in 1883. Then the Nikitin brothers - Peter and Akim - built a building for him. The first room was wooden. Three years later, a stone structure was erected.

In 1923, the circus became state. The building it is in now was built in 1964. The auditorium was designed for 1719 seats. In 1984, a large-scale reconstruction began in the circus. But since the funds were sorely lacking, it was soon frozen. And only in 2005 it was resumed again, and two years later the work was completed. But there were some shortcomings that had to be eliminated already in the process of the circus after its opening. Now the auditorium can accommodate two thousand people. There are places that will allow you to comfortably accommodate wheelchair users. Also, the hall is equipped with a new light andsound equipment. Modern laser and video projectors are installed. A second arena and an autonomous boiler room appeared in the circus. Separate premises were built for keeping monkeys, elephants, predators, marine animals, and dogs. There is also a large stable for 37 horses. Now the circus has its own, large and modern veterinary clinic. A covered utility yard is equipped, where in any weather you can engage in loading and unloading. The total area of the circus is now thirty thousand square meters.

Inna Vyacheslavovna Vankina has been the director since 2014.
