It's no secret that fantasy and science fiction are at the peak of popularity today. And both in cinema and in literature. And if cinema remains the lot of a few, then almost every person who knows how to connect 2-3 words tries to write a book. The most popular genre of all graphomaniacs is fantasy and science fiction in all its diversity.
Why this particular literary movement? Everything is simple here: writing such a work, according to a fair number of such authors, does not require preliminary study of at least some reliable information, because you can come up with your own history for your world, the geographical location of continents and oceans, even the laws of physics. And many unfortunate writers do not realize that it is very, very difficult to come up with a new detailed world so that it looks authentic. And the real masters of fantasy and science fiction devote a lot of time to studying the necessary reference material.
One of the most popular fantasy subgenres is novels abouthits. Works about how the experience and knowledge of a modern person allow him to get a good job in a new place appear at an alarming rate in many authors. One of these writers is Vyacheslav Korotin. The author's books are rated above average and are in demand by their target audience.
About the author
Vyacheslav Yurievich Korotin was born on June 18, 1963 in Riga, Latvia. Here he lives and works as a chemistry teacher for many years. The writer did not provide more information about himself. Judging by the volume of books written and the date of publication of published books, Korotin has been engaged in writing for no more than 5-6 years. Or for him it is a pleasant and easy hobby, to which he returns from time to time.

Vyacheslav Yuryevich Korotin: "A hitman with a sword 3"
Vyacheslav Yuryevich wrote only two books in the series, but the topic raised by the author would be enough for a dozen novels. So the writer found a follower - Alexander Golovchuk. He wrote the novel Why Not, where Sergey Gorsky, an old acquaintance of Vadim Denisov, who also traveled back to 1810, acted as the main character. In fact, this is not a continuation or prehistory, but a parallel narrative on behalf of the secondary hero of the original book. The novel "Why not" was written with the expectation of the second part, but Alexander Golovchuk died. His wife promised to complete the work, but this has not happened yet.
About the writer's work
As an author, Vyacheslav Yurievich Korotin has already taken place. He has his own niche in the literary world and his own style. All Korotin's works are either just an alternative history, or an alternative history with our contemporary falling into the past. The author obviously gravitates more towards the second one.
In general, falling into the past is a well-developed trend in Russian literature. All time periods have been mastered - from the Stone Age ("Crack", S. Mikhailov; "Mammoth Clan", S. Kalashnikov) to the hero getting into his own body in childhood. Especially many books are devoted to the period of the Second World War - itshave already outplayed dozens of different writers with their characters - drivers, anti-aircraft gunners, scouts, etc.
Vyacheslav Yuryevich Korotin describes wars that are a little more behind us in the past, but at the same time they are quite well known - this is the Russo-Japanese war of 1905 and the war with Napoleon in 1812. The main idea of the book is that the main character must save Russia. There are two directions here at once: the development of the country as a whole with the help of discoveries (explosives, new bullets, seeds, chemicals, etc.) and victory in battles based on knowledge of history.
It should be noted that the writer's books are very patriotic.
The "Battleships of Victory" series is quite interesting, but at times it seems that it is designed for a narrower circle, for example, for those who are at least somehow close to maritime affairs. But the "Popadanets with a sword" is a universal thing, so let's dwell on it in more detail.
"The Hitman with a Sword": a short story
The most popular book written by Vyacheslav Yuryevich Korotin is "A Hitman with a Sword". Warning: For those who don't like spoilers, please don't read any further!
So, the main character is Vadim Denisov, a chemist and a swordsman rolled into one. To pay for the operation of his terminally ill son, he begins to fight for money in mortal duels. Then, having tied up with this dangerous craft, he falls into the past while fishing. Given his appearance and the presence of incomprehensible things, he appears to be an American of Russian origin, and separately for the landowner who sheltered himinvents a story about a secret society that hides scientific discoveries from the people.
Knowing that the year is 1810 and there will be war soon, Vadim makes many efforts to help Russia minimize human losses: he opens iodine, a mobile field kitchen, improved bullets, smokeless powder, etc. At the same time, he shows the marvelous possession of a sword.
The second part is dedicated directly to the battles, as well as the further promotion of the hero.
Pros of the series
- Very easy to read, despite its decent length, the novel can be read in an evening. And read the second part the next day.
- Fascinating. Those who love progressorism and all kinds of hitmen, Vyacheslav Yuryevich Korotin and his work should like it.
- Patriotic. You read and rejoice for the Motherland.
- The description of the discoveries is not long. There are no unnecessary details, so there is no feeling that you are reading some kind of textbook or reference book.
- Vyacheslav Yuryevich Korotin writes very concisely, without getting out of the limits of the invented plot. Therefore, in his book there is only a mention of various kinds of mystical phenomena. In light of the fact that many writers like to include everything at once in their books, from dragons to angels on motorcycles, Korotin's novels only benefit from this.
Cons of the series
- The lack of any pronounced obstacle on the way of the main character - he easily goes to his goal and everything is too easy for him. This applies to personal life, and finding friends, and discoveries - in general, everything.
- Unreliable. In part, this can be attributed to the first point. Any person who is involved in the creation of something knows that not everything can go smoothly, even with excellent knowledge of theory. The fact that the hero manages not only to create some things (products, elements) himself, but also to explain it to others on his fingers, so much so that they do everything at once, without the “poke and pick” method, causes laughter.
- Linear storytelling. It seems that the world exists only around the central character: he left - everyone stopped.
- The character of the characters is nothing, just people. Boring. No charismatic heroes or even villains.
- All sorts of claims by specialists: historians find some inconsistencies (but this people, in principle, consider this genre to be pathetic attempts to “win” in all wars), and fencers say that Vadim Denisov could not win everyone and everything in fights only on the grounds that he studied the art 200 years later.
To whom to read
For whom does Vyacheslav Korotin write? Many books are written about the hitmen, but they are all very different. It is this author that can be recommended to teenagers: they still do not get hung up on details and it is important for them that it is easy to read. And this cannot be taken away from the writer - his novels are read without the slightest tension and very quickly. Older readers can recommend these books "once" - not the most exciting story, but to pass the time, they are suitable.
