Author biography

The book "Fried Green Tomatoes" was not the first work of the American writer Fanny Flagg, but certainly the most popular. The diagnosis of dyslexia, put to her at school, seemed to put an end to the dream of a career as a novelist, but Fanny (then Patricia Neal) took her fate into her own hands and enrolled in a theater troupe. In the same place, Evelyn meets another inhabitant of this dull place - Ninny Threadgood, who tells the heroine the story of her life in the Half Station (a real-life town in the state of Alabama). In fact, "Fried Green Tomatoes" can be called a book about a midlife crisis: Evelyn's children have long grown up and become independent, relationships with her husband are falling apart, every morning a woman begins with thoughts of loneliness and death. Is 48 years old really the end of her life, and all that remains for her from now on is to destroy chocolate bars in huge quantities and plunge deeper into the abyss of longing? It was during such a difficult period that Evelyn met Ninny - she also went through a difficult life path, but did not allow herself to give up. Having lost both parents early, widowed, left with a handicapped son in her arms, Ninni never stopped thanking fate for the opportunity to breathe, laugh, and rejoice. Communication with Ninny helps Evelyn see everything that happens to her in a different light. Gradually, a real friendship is born between women.
