The beginning of an acting career
In a feature film, John Noble first appeared in 1988, playing a small role in the Australian horror film The Vision. For the next 10 years, the actor played mainly in low-budget films that were not widely known outside of Australia.
The first truly successful film in Noble's career was the detective story "Mask of the Monkey", based on the novel by Dorothy Porter. The actor played Mr. Norris, the father of a brutally murdered student. The film was released in 2000 and brought fame to the then aspiring actor John Noble.
Full-length movie
In 2002, Noble received perhaps the most important role of his career - Denethor in the film The Lord of the Rings:Two fortresses. This part of his character can only be seen in the director's cut. However, in the next film in the franchise, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Noble's character gets much more screen time. It was for this role that he received several prestigious awards, including the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
In 2004, after finishing work on the Lord of the Rings franchise, the actor tried his hand at a new genre, playing in the historical drama One Night with the King. The literary primary source of the picture was the novel "Hadassah: One Night with the King", based in part on the biblical Book of Esther. Critics praised the film's visuals, but called the script a "disappointment" due to its length and lack of momentum. The film flopped at the box office, grossing only $13 million worldwide.
Among John Noble's films, it is worth noting the action movie Run Without Looking Back, in which he played along with such stars as Paul Walker, Vera Farmiga, Cameron Bright. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the picture has gained some popularity and is considered one of the best projects of director Wayne Kramer.
Television work
The most important television project of Noble's career was the sci-fi television series Fringe. The actor worked on it for more than five years, regularly appearing as W alter Bishop in every episode of the series. It was for the role of Dr. Bishop that he was awarded the Saturn Award for Best TV Movie.actor.
John Noble also played Dr. John Madsen in the hit medical drama All Saints.
In 2013, the actor was approved for the role of Henry Parish, the son of Ichabod and Katrina Crane. He is one of the main characters of this intricate mystical horror. The series is a modern interpretation of the short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving, written back in the early 19th century. The series was warmly received by both critics and viewers. Four seasons were filmed, with the final episode airing in March 2017.
In 2015, Noble received a supporting role in the American detective series Elementary. John Noble played Morland Holmes, father of Sherlock Holmes, in 13 episodes of the project.
