Konstantin Khabensky's films have invariably riveted the attention of domestic viewers for twenty years now. During which this completely outstanding, but at the same time some unusually "real" artist, similar in the types of his roles in the cinema to our neighbors or ordinary people whom we meet daily in our lives, has become one of the most sought-after actors in modern Russia. Each new picture of him, without exaggeration, is a real event in the world of Russian cinema.
This actor doesn't just live in the frame. In fact, each of the almost seventy films in which he has played to date is a kind of film about Konstantin Khabensky and his great revelation to the viewer.
Our task today will be to compile a list of films in which he played an exclusively leading role, as well as a review of the best of them.
Short creative biography
Honored and People's Artist of the Russian Federation Konstantin Yuryevich Khabensky was born in a simple Leningrad family of an engineerand math teacher on January 11, 1972. The future star of Russian cinema did not attach much importance to teaching at school, so after the eighth grade he became a student at the Technical School of Aviation Instrumentation and Automation. By the third year, Khabensky realized that he had made a mistake with the choice of his life path, he left the technical school and spent several years in free swimming. It was that truly magical time of the Leningrad 80s, when in some ordinary floor polisher, janitor or street musician one could recognize not just anyone, but Konstantin Khabensky himself…
In 1990, our hero became an applicant at the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, after which he worked for about a year in the troupe of the Experimental Theater "Crossroads". In 1996, the aspiring actor received a transfer to the theater of Konstantin Raikin "Satyricon" and left for Moscow.
Below in the photo you can see Konstantin Khabensky in the TV series "Deadly Force".
Since 2003, Khabensky became an artist of the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater named after A. P. Chekhov, which he serves to this day.
Cinema appeared in the biography of Konstantin Khabensky as early as the fourth year of the Leningrad Institute, when in 1994 he starred in a short episode of the film "To whom God will send." In 1998, the actor was entrusted with the first leading role in his life in the melodrama "Women's Property", and two years later, after playing the role of Igor Plakhov in the famous TV series "Deadly Power", to Khabenskyreal fame and popularity came. It was from 2000 that the countdown of his best paintings began.
The main roles of the actor. List
So, let's figure out what the main roles in the filmography of Konstantin Khabensky we can remember in his entire film career today. There are not so many of these paintings, only eighteen, but what.
As mentioned above, the first such picture was "Women's Property", which was released on the screens of the country back in 1998.
From 2000 to 2005, Khabensky could play the role of the protagonist of such films as "House for the Rich" (2000), "Night Watch" (2004), "Poor Relatives" (2005) and "Daytime Watch" (2005).
From 2006 to 2010, the actor added to his popularity with his work in the films "Rush Hour" (2006), "Irony of Fate. Continuation" (2007), "Brownie" (2008), "Admiral" (2008) and "Freaks" (2011).
The photo below is a frame from the movie "Irony of Fate. Sequel".
From 2011 to 2015, the actor sounded unusually loud in such brilliant works as "Heavenly Court" (2011), "The Geographer Drank His Globe Away" (2013), "Pyotr Leshchenko. Everything that was …" (2013) and "Method" (2015). The latest films and TV series with Konstantin Khabensky in the title role were "Collector" (2016),"Selfie" (2017), "Trotsky" (2017) and "Sobibor" (2018).
In the photo below you can see the actor in the series "Trotsky".
Let's dwell in more detail on the most outstanding works of the actor, collected in chronological order.
Night Watch
This picture, released in 2004 and based on the mystical novel of the same name by Sergei Lukyanenko, "made a lot of noise and made many viewers who were not yet familiar with the literary fundamental principle of the Night Watch rush to bookstores in search of a trilogy about the adventures of the "other" Anton Gorodetsky, rushing between the forces of darkness and light.
Becoming one of the first films with Konstantin Khabensky in the title role, in which the actor tried on a guise that was completely unusual for himself and the audience, accustomed to his role as honest operatives from the series, this picture, in addition to an interesting plot, also stood out and absolutely revolutionary special effects for those years. The actor, on the other hand, absolutely flawlessly and very reliably played the main character Anton Gorodetsky, honestly and fearlessly doing his job of maintaining a balance between evil and good in all dimensions of the planet Earth, so that it does not collapse into hell of catastrophes, wars and human tragedies.
Admiral
The next of the outstanding films starring Konstantin Khabensky was the historical drama "Admiral",released on screens in 2008, and tells about the incredibly difficult period of 1916-1920. During which the collapse of the Russian Empire took place, against the backdrop of the unfolding love story of Admiral Alexander Vasilyevich Kolchak, who is the Supreme Ruler of Russia and the Supreme Commander of the Russian Army of those years, and Anna Timireva, an artist and poetess who became his common-law wife.
Konstantin Khabensky in the role of Kolchak is absolutely perfect, thanks to the true nature of nobility in him, which favorably distinguishes the actor in almost all roles, and which is his kind of invisible artistic highlight.
Also, one cannot fail to note the excellent work of costume designers and filmmakers, thanks to which "Admiral" has become a very atmospheric, majestic and beautiful picture.
Freaks
In 2011, of all the films with Konstantin Khabensky in the title role, I would like to single out the comedy melodrama "Freaks", in which the actor's screen partners were the famous model and film actress Mila Jovovich and the famous TV presenter Ivan Urgant.
In this picture, the studied actor got the image of Slava Kolotilov, a simple-minded teacher from an ordinary school in a small seaside town with the amazing name Fingers, who dreams of becoming a famous writer and who came to conquer Moscow with his manuscript. However, instead of a literary field, the hero of Konstantin Khabensky unexpectedlyconquered the beautiful Nadya himself. But here's the bad luck - Fingers do not want to let Slavik go, and a series of their ongoing circumstances do not give Slavik the opportunity to marry this girl.
According to many viewers, this lyrical and kind comedy is one of the best in the genre in recent years. Her brilliant cast has recreated a wonderful and bright film on the screen, looking easily and in one breath.
The geographer drank his globe away
In 2013, it was the turn of one of the most outstanding films starring Konstantin Khabensky - the drama "The Geographer Drank His Globe Away", based on the novel of the same name by Alexei Ivanov. The actor plays a certified biologist Viktor Sluzhkin, who, with the advent of the 90s, turned out to be unemployed by no one, which is why he gradually becomes an inveterate drunkard. In order not to quarrel with his wife, demanding that he finally become the breadwinner in the family, the hero of Khabensky got a job as a teacher of geography in a regular Perm school.
The struggle that began with the students, having passed many trials during a joint rafting down the river, gradually develops into respect and friendship. Konstantin Khabensky literally lives in the frame. He is a completely real, tired and slightly tipsy hero, just living one by one every day of his life.
Method
The series "Method", released in 2015, instantly became a cult in Russia. It is an extremely dark, bloody and exciting story about maniacs. That's right, inplural and without antagonists, who, by all logic, should be assigned the role of fighters against these murderers and rapists. Maniacs in this series are all. And if someone is still a normal person, then after talking with Rodion Viktorovich Meglin, whose most difficult role was brilliantly played by Konstantin Khabensky, he or she will soon join them. This is how maniacs are arranged - in order to understand and eliminate them, you need to be the same yourself.
Khabensky's hero Rodion Meglin is one of the most mysterious and extraordinary personalities in Russian cinema. His method of work is his own cross, and he does not share the enthusiasm of his new partner Yesenya at all…
Selfie
Konstantin Khabensky's unique 2017 film "Selfie" is one of the most misunderstood and underestimated pictures of the actor. This is a dramatic thriller with elements of mysticism, the essence of the plot of which is that the hero - writer and TV presenter Vladimir Bogdanov one day faces his double, whom he himself created with the power of his mind. However, where is the guarantee that he himself is not a double, otherwise the “second self” that suddenly appeared out of nowhere is actually the true Vladimir Bogdanov?
"Selfie" divides its viewers exactly into two camps. Some like him madly, while others pour mud on him. One way or another, but the film, completely unlike any picture of modern Russian cinema, insufficiently sounded and declared itself. And those who scold him today, perhaps someday they will rethink and understand him.
Sobibor
The final picture of our today's brief review of films with actor Konstantin Khabensky in the title role was his directorial debut - the military drama "Sobibor", which premiered in May 2018. The film tells the terrible story of a mutiny raised by prisoners of the Polish fascist concentration camp "Sobibor" in October 1943, led by a captured lieutenant of the Red Army Alexander Aronovich Pechersky, whose role was played by Khabensky himself.
The film is based on the real events of those years, described in detail in the literary work of Ilya Vasiliev. The picture itself is a kind of hymn to the memory of millions of prisoners of the "death camps" destroyed by the Nazis. The very story of the uprising in Sobibor is the only successful example of a riot in concentration camps in the history of the Great Patriotic War, as a result of which hundreds of prisoners were able to save their lives…
